Monday night is bin night in my street, this week general recycling, green waste, and the monthly glass bin (2 wine bottoms and sundry jars).

 

Getting the bins, I saw a little heck scurry up the wall. Grabbed the camera, but it decided to hide behind a down pipe. Waited a while, but it did not come back out. Have not checked this morning.

Decided to visit Kraft Azalea Park today to see how the egrets were doing with their nest building. The park  is a scenic public park located in the city of Winter Park, Florida just north of Orlando, Florida, and is bordered by Lake Maitland on the North and West. The egrets are in the early stages of building and nesting. I expect the chicks to hatch in the next month. I'll keep you posted.

Out on our screened porch now enjoying the super sunshine, low 60's temperatures, fresh Spring air, nice nature sights, etc.  Some of early Spring flowers are starting to come up.  See three visuals as "evidence" below.  This includes a busy bee being hard at work.  Like these bees better than the deer in our yard/ravine areas.  Wonderful to be enjoying this nice weather and hopefully the snow and cold will not return for a long time.

The back yard is a side project that is a years-long work in progress. Years of neglect birthed an extensive tangle of native California vegetation (some call them weeds) that overtook the open areas of our tiny ecosystem. Since we are too small to be lobbied by the Sierra Club, the first step was clearing the brush. We then brought in some locally sourced rocks that would have appeared eventually if our house wasn’t interfering with natural erosion. This wanton destruction of the natural environment was responsibly offset by planting a few fruit trees, some grape vines and a few eco-friendly raised garden planters. We added some invasive species such as Pansies and Hibiscus for color. Unfortunately, this has led to a fairly serious Gnome infestation.

Nice to see the egrets nesting up by you Oveido...they're definitely actively nesting down here too, along with many other species.

 

I'm not quite as slow getting around to sorting this past weekend's photos from the wetlands...so here are some from Sunday:

A great egret showing off its full mating plumage - the green lores around the eyes and the peacock-like aigrette feathers all fanned out:

 

The snowy egrets are all made up for mating season too - normally yellow feet and lores turn blood orange and the long hair-like feathers grow out on their head, neck, and back:
