$800.00 Deposits and some Itineraries are Zero deposit!?

We booked a Transpacific for March 2023. The deposit is $800.00 which

I have never seen before. I did some research on other itineraries and the

deposits are Zero!

So, I checked out the other Australia and New Zealand itineraries and they are

also $800.00 deposits. This seems really steep to me.

Why I do not see deposits for other cruises? This was on the Princess website.

We're seeing this too. Went to book a B2B2B for late 2022 (Island Princess) Northern Lights followed by two Med cruises. Deposits of $800 per person per leg and no FCDs on file cuz they've been eaten up the canceled cruises turning them into FCCs.

Our TA is working on it. He made to bookings some days ago and hasn't asked for any deposit money so I think there's an angle being worked. I have read other posts on this board that indicate the grace period for no deposit is sometimes extended for at least 30 days.

This morning I checked the bookings and had to re-accept all the contract and other acknowledgments that are required with new bookings ... so I think something is up.

It does seem that "something is afoot"!

We actually put a hold on the cruise on the Princess website due to

these itineraries not even showing on our TA website yet.

But, YIKES! $800.00!!! for 2 years away!

I have seen this. I called and said I would not book at that amount. Dropped it to $200 for 2 of us as past passenger.

THANK YOU for telling me this!!! We are Platinum and currently have 3 other

cruises booked. $800.00 gone for two years is quite a bit. I do not mind the $200.00

Makes me glad to have FCDs on hand. We didn't take the "extra FCC" when our cruises were cancelled. We only had deposits in place and asked to have the FCDs returned to our accounts. They wanted more deposit on the cruises we booked but we used the FCDs instead. Have a few more hanging around "just in case". I never trusted the "bonus FCC" deal. Even if we had paid a ton on a cruise I would have gone for my money back rather than some future benefit I might never be able to use. I mentioned this to my TA and he agreed. He said he advised people not to take the "deal" but most went ahead and took it anyway.

my "FCC's" have served as my deposits - no additional OOP monies needed - for our last 2 cruises - one already cancelled and the other in 4/2022

That works but... They would have given me $125 FCC each for my FCDs which wasn't a good deal for me. It wouldn't have covered my new deposits and I would have lost $550 of OBC on the cruises we booked. I never give them more than the deposit until final payment time. Of course a lot of folks had already passed final payment time before their cruises got cancelled. That was pretty harsh.

i completely understand

I 'gamed the system' last July and paid $ 1,000 toward cruise fare for a Thanksgiving cruise - which was of course cancelled

this is a portion of the email we received when the cancellation was announced on 7/22/20

our $ 1,000 paid became $ 2,000 FCC - which in now applied

We hope you will stick with us by accepting this special Double your Deposit Future Cruise Credit offer:

  • Transfer the money deposited for your vacation as a refundable Future Cruise Credit (FCC) and Princess will provide a matching bonus non-refundable FCC for the same amount up to the base cruise fare amount of the current cruise (minimum $100 per person).

This requires no action from you and gives our team a chance to shine at a later date by using the Future Cruise Credits above on any voyage booked by, or sailing through May 1, 2022.

Did you have any FCC? I am talking to Princess and they said that would be the

only way to get it reduced. Ugh!

Call back and get someone else. It can be amazing what happens sometimes when you do that.

i did have FCC. They wanted $800 deposit for one cruise and $520 per cabin for next cruise. I said I want to book but won’t pay that. Both times deposit was reduced one was $200 other was $270.
in the end those cruises were cancelled and  eventually they gave me back my original FCD from last March.

I would call back.
I had to try 3 agents to get my price drop on my current casino fare cruise
just got 2 emails tonight- BSE extended and casino offer extended.

I know it's not Princess but when I booked my first Carnival cruise for last Sept. with a refundable $500 deposit and it was cancelled, I had the choice to get my deposit back or book another cruise with $600 OBC.  I waited until the final date to make a decision came and then decided to book another 14 day cruise for Oct. 2022.  My online TA said I needed to pay another $800 for refundable deposit and that the original $500 would become FCC.  I regret not asking her to check again.  Now I have $1300 tied up for almost two years and hope they don't go belly up.

Princess says that I can transfer a Courtesy Hold to my TA

and that is how I will get the lower deposit. Otherwise, no dice.

When our 2021 cruise was cancelled for being 8 days or longer, we picked out a 2022 cruisetour we wanted to book. Called up our assigned PVP at Princess and she offered the $200 deposit saying it was a part of the coupon book she'd been given to hand out to her cruisers. If we had just booked ourselves online, we would have been forced into paying the $800 deposit. We did have FCC of course as this is booking #4 that we've parlayed FCC into after the other 3 were cancelled. Maybe seek out who your assigned PVP is and contact them directly mentioning the coupon book?

I will look to book last minute (within 6 weeks of sailings) after I sail the 3 cruises I have booked. The new $800 deposit is not something I am comfortable with. It took forever to get a refund after our cancelled cruises last year and I won't suffer that again.
