Rare twangster Posted March 11, 2021 #251 Share Posted March 11, 2021 IMO this is largely a Florida problem and select cruises like transocean or canal (or president). I imagine Odyssey will likely have an azipod fall into and get stuck in this rabbit hole as the first non-O class with a CK/CL to be based in FL. As someone who booked suites long before having any meaningful CAS status I get it and understand the frustration even if it never impacted me to a great extent. It's inevitable as tier levels grow in numbers change will be needed. Changes to CAS have occurred before and change to CAS will come again. The first several OY cruises from FL will have modifications for Pin access in some form. Get ready for it. 1

Perhaps that was planned on their part to ease the SL boarding day complaints. EDIT - come to think of it that's where I first encountered "Mr. 3000" as he became known later in the cruise who had many thoughts he shared on these changes. We were in Chops, #missedthedrama. Royal did the same boarding day lunch in MDR for pins on 50th birthday cruise

firefly333 Posted March 11, 2021 #259 Share Posted March 11, 2021 Idk if it's a big factor on rcl, but on carnival my last cruise I hit some biggest casino cruise of the year with hefty prizes. Carnival imo has so many heavily discounted casino cruises that it's becoming a casino cruiseline. One of the biggest reasons I vowed to come back to rcl. So many getting so fast in the loyalty tiers that being high level loyalty isnt worth much. Me and 800 plus of my best friends had priority embarkation..and the ship boarded late. Pinnacle is a high enough level I'm sure it's not such a mass tier, but from what I saw the number of discounted casino cruises has more and more people at higher levels faster. Those lounges with higher and higher percentages of higher level loyalty folks will only get more and more crowded. The problem will just get worse. Everyone here sees it getting worse. Or there wouldnt constantly be threads here on rcl going back years complaining about overcrowded lounges. Not a easy solution without someone losing what they say they either earned or paid for.
Seville2Cabo Posted March 11, 2021 #260 Share Posted March 11, 2021 How about let suite guest reserve tables in the lounge and specific times and Pins take take what is left or allow them to reserve tables in the DL. When we go to the lounge it is pretty much the same time each day. We usually eat 6:30 to 7, so bar or lounge about 5 to 6:30. We usually only go to the SL if we are traveling with another couple that does not have C&A drinks. Otherwise we prefer the bars around the ship. (Crazy but you can meet like minded people there too)
RFerrington Posted March 11, 2021 #261 Share Posted March 11, 2021 I know it isn't a popular concept, but I foresee a time when Royal will begin using the airline method of accumulating points over a given period of time and then wiping the slate clean (or at least reducing the loyalty level) if you do not cruise a certain amount of times within that given period. I'm not saying I favor this process....just that I believe it is inevitable. I have heard all of the arguments against it. They did it with the casino program and I believe that they will, eventually, do it with the loyalty program, too. JMHO. 1

I do not think that would be an option - given there are not Royal ships based year-round in Europe, Asia or Australia (or Canada etc). It would mean citizens of those countries would be very disadvantaged.....

It would likely be a couple of years’ periodicity.

Fly to cruise guests are disadvantaged compared to drive guests now too.
Blizzard54 Posted March 12, 2021 #265 Share Posted March 12, 2021 Not that I would want such a change but if they did I would expect it to be a multi-year time period. Possibility a rolling 3 years. It might be a bit complicated to set up and maintain and the numbers would need to be lowered. Still is is only a problem on some sailings. Longer repos are the biggest issue. As Royal goes to more 4\5 night ships, it concentrates more of the veteran cruisers to 6/8 and 7 night sailings.

Only thing I'm hoping to bring onboard at embarkation is my backpack and check everything else. Question: What time does it open and how do we get in if we don't get our room cards until 1 pm when we get access to our rooms? I remember seeing a scanner outside CK on one of the other ships. Most definitely things will be quite different when cruising resumes again. No one really knows how far reaching that effect will be. In past times, the door was simply standing wide open until cabin check in, since we did not have our sea pass cards yet. The SL concierge was pretty good at surveying the room for "interlopers". 😉

That's one of the reasons why I moved from the Spring to the Fall TA. More likely to be back to normal. Spain isn't in a good space right now. Who knows how long they will get back to normal? I'd rather give them an extra 6 months. I'm also more hopeful for our 3 day Bahamas cruise this October. Hopefully we'll be able to do that one on Navigator out of FLL. I am soooo tired of all the cancellations. 😞 Will just be down right strange to finally get on a ship now. Not only all the changes...but being as it has been so long...over a year now. 😮 Was able to connect all 3 legs on Allure B2B Med/Allure TA just now. Will post on our board for the change. Had to drop our GS on the TA down a deck to get them all the same, but now can be lazy and not change cabins at all. 😉
