Hi could anyone give me any advice on cruising with a one year old? My son and his partner are thinking of joining us on a cruise with their baby, would they have to pay full price? Has anyone on here taken a baby with them any advice on your experience would be appreciated.

Everyone pays whatever the price is, as everyone takes up a lifeboat spot. 3rd pax rate is almost always less than pax 1 and 2.

However, tips are not charged under age 2, though to me with dirty diapers, I'd pay some.

They can request a roll crib but it does take up floor space. Like a play something, forget the term. Again more work for the steward.

Took our grandchild with us on the Sunshine & she was One ,& we had to pay full price .Also asked for a crib but its like a pack & play and does take up room .At dinner we always got a highchair . We didnt use a baby sitter because that was me while the rest of the party hit the casino ( I dont gamble) but I did it after the show .

It's none of my business, but as a parent who has taken our two kids cruising with us many times, I would advise against cruising with a one year old.

Children under 2 cannot use the kids' club except for an hour or two during the day of supervised play (a parent has to be there).

Once they're 2 or older, it's a great family vacation.

Also, if still in diapers can not use the pools or waterworks. I've seen parents get upset and argue with staff over this policy. Best to review rules in advance and be aware what is permitted and not permitted.

The cruise lines with paid nurseries were Disney, Norwegian Escape and newer/refurbished Royal Caribbean ships.  Cunard and Carnival let children go for free in the kids club starting at the age of 2.  Princess let children under the age of 3 attend the kids club with a  parent or adult supervising (they did a great job helping young children when the ships aren't full).   That may have changed with covid, so it would be best to confirm with the line prior to booking.

It's a personal decision, but we didn't sail until the kids were old enough to go to the kids clubs unsupervised except for our first cruise, and after that decided to wait.  With young kids, its best to go when the kids clubs aren't overwhelmed (so ideally during the school year) and oddly enough on cruises that don't seem like natural kids cruises (all of our cruises were unusual for families, and it all worked out - you can take private tours and customize them for the kids even if it doesn't seem like the destinations are the most kid friendly).   That works out best for us, since its really  a lot of work to go on a trip (not a vacation) with a toddler or preschooler and we'd at least like to see somewhere interesting

.
