Amtrak from Boston

We just lifted and Shifted to a cruise that ends up in Boston, mid September 2022. We live on Long Island, NY. We don't want to fly back to NY, so we were considering Amtrak to Penn Station and the LIRR back home.

When looking at the Amtrak web site and filling in Boston, 3 locations came up. If we disembarked in Boston, which station is closest and what would be the best way to get to there from the cruise terminal?

Just a note, we are two seniors and schlepping luggage is not our forte.

Cheers

Len

As others have said, South Station is the one if you are departing the city immediately after disembarking. One of the nice things about it, being a terminus, is that you can board the train about 15-20 minutes before you depart. Even slightly earlier if you enlist the help of a Red Cap, who's services are complimentary, but a tip is expected. They will usher you onboard at the same time that First/Business Class are given early boarding privileges so it's a fun hack.

If you wanted to make it a bit more leisurely, you can also book a night in Boston at the Fairmont Copley Plaza which sits practically adjacent (and easy walking distance) to the Back Bay Station. From here you can quickly board and head down to New York. It's our preferred hotel in town for many reasons, but the biggest is its proximity to the train.

If you have never explored Boston and like history, I would suggest at least a two day stay.
