Carnival to start outside of US ports

Recommended Posts

Got this from Seeking Alpha:

  • Carnival Corp (CCL +1.7%) says the suspension of all operations from U.S. ports has been extended through June 30 as expected.
  • "We know that this is very disappointing to our guests who continue to be eager to sail, and we remain committed to working with the Administration and the CDC to find a workable solution that best serves the interest of public health," says President Christine Duffy.
  • "While we have not made plans to move Carnival Cruise Line ships outside of our U.S. homeports, we may have no choice but to do so in order to resume our operations which have been on 'pause' for over a year," he adds.

I wonder where they would startf (Bahamas, etc).  Would you go if they started outside of US.

I'm glad they're considering this step- The CDC has unfairly applied ridiculously stringent measures to the cruise lines that have not been applied to hotels, trains (even long distance train travel in far more cramped and close spaces) resorts, casinos or theme parks. At the very most the CDC should simply require vaccinations for all passengers within the age range available for vaccination with no requirement for children under the age of 12 (they've been in school all this time without vaccine anyway) and that should easily suffice but instead they've created a uselessly complex series of steps that is not needed.

California is lifting restricts as of June 15, so why cannot we cruise then? California plans to lift most pandemic restrictions June 15 (msn.com)

Lostsoulcruiser, your topic headline is misleading.  She said that they have NOT made plans to start outside of US ports, but that they may have no choice but to do so.

I see your point of view and the headline was not meant to be deceiving.  NCL has said they are planning on starting in July with only vaccinated passengers from US ports but I did not hear where they would start.

Cruise line stocks rally after CDC said to allow mid-summer cruise restart

Apr. 06, 2021 4:40 PM ETCarnival Corporation & Plc (CCL)By: Clark Schultz, SA News Editor
  • Cruise line stocks are higher in after-hours trading after the CDC is reported to have said that cruises can start back up the middle part of this summer with restrictions.
  • The details aren't in yet but the headline is enough to prompt some buying action from investors.
  • Yesterday, reports indicated that cruise companies do not need to mandate vaccines in order to resume travel.
  • Carnival (NYSE:CCL) is 3.81% higher in the late session, while Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NYSE:NCLH) is 1.85% higher. Royal Caribbean is up 3.33%.
  • Analysts have been warming up to the cruise line sector over the last few weeks (Citi, Stifel).

The CDC said cruise could restart after test cruises. A 30 lead time applying for test cruises that could begin 60 days later would be in July.

Great! and uh when would that be? If you continue to believe that the CDC is working towards a restart prior to COVID being a non threat anymore your only kidding yourself.  I agree with the one article I read that the "Conditional Sail Order" is essentially a "NO SAIL ORDER" dressed up in wrapping paper to look nice.  Cruising has been paused for well over a year based on useless out of date data while the Airlines that continue to bring us variants from other countries are allowed to carry on like nothings changed.

I’m thinking stake out the Mexican Riviera.  Shuttle from San Diego to Ensenada.

You want to shuttle 1000 people from San Diego to Ensenada? lol

What would be more realistic is Cabo or Puerto Vallarta. Both have large airports to support the flights from the US.

I got a email from ncl with their new ports. I see posts here who want to push nassau to use it with rcl, which I find unlikely. Carnival needs to find it own ports. Carnival is just saber rattling imo. Hasnt done anything but sit back and hope and now saying well maybe...

Here is there ncl is leaving from. ...one is jamaica. Oh boy. ..
