Cyclone Alert off Coast of WA - Cyclone Seroja

Cyclone Seroja caused a lot of damage at East Timor.  Two cyclone systems in one weekend likely to cross the WA Coast at Exmouth. People are being requested to leave the area - camping, caravanning and boating not safe.

Second system has now been named Cyclone Odette.

The image below indicates how striking these lows, Tropical Cyclones Odette and Seroja are. There is going to be some damage along the WA coast.

The Weather Bureau has forecast that the cyclone will make landfall on Sunday in the Kalbarri-Geraldton region - much further south than usual.

Cyclone Odette is about to be absorbed by Cyclone Seroja, which is due to cross the Coast on Sunday.  This is a rare and dangerous cyclone.  Houses along the WA Mid Coast are not built to cyclone strength, unlike north WA.

Thanks for your well wishes - We are expecting to cop it from about 7.00pm tonight here in Geraldton

so will be holding on tight!

Cyclone Seroja is a Category 3 cyclone and has crossed the Coast at Kalbarri.  Hoping everyone in the path of the Cyclone is keeping safe.

Cyclone Seroja has left a trail of devastation and blackouts after crossing the Coast.  Winds of up to 170kph.  Now decreasing in intensity as it continues at rapid speed across land.  

 

This cyclone surprised at how fast it moved towards the Coast.  Queensland cyclones tend to move towards the Coast at a slow pace, which often causes local flooding as it hangs around.

Downgraded from a cyclone.  Low Expected to be at Esperance by 11 am.

I note many have lost power and internet access.

TV coverage of Kalbari show houses with top stories gone or damaged.  SES were waiting for power to be cut, so they can get out to attend to welfare of people.  SES advise no-one injured n Kalbari.

Good morning Kalbarri and towns which were in the path of the cyclone.  News says 70% of buildings in Kalbari were damaged.  What a shock to wake up to such devastation.  Fortunately no-one was killed.  My thoughts are with everyone, as you rebuild.  I have been lucky enough to travel from Brisbane as far north as Kalbarri and thought the region north of Perth was very beautiful.  We stayed in a caravan park.  I wonder if it was the one with fish in the yard?

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes - we escaped without any major damage here in Geraldton, but people 120 Kms of us in Kalbarri have been devastated as too has Nothampton, only 50 kms from us.

We were without power, water and phones for 60 hours but everything back up and running now

thank goodness.

All we need now is to get cruising back to normal in Australia!

Glad you are OK.  Kalbarri and Nothampton certainly copped it.

Yes Kalbarri and Northampton copped the full force of the cyclone.  A local said the eye of the cyclone went over Northampton.  Another local said houses imploded.  I'm amazed no-one was killed, as the houses weren't built for cyclones.  Sounds like everyone is helping with the cleanup.
