Two helicopters, twenty zodiacs with four embarkation ports and a ready room for all that gear!  You've thought of everything.  The MAGS system sounds like a game changer in terms of waste management.  Is the rest of the ship as environmentally conscious?

Thanks for being here!

Hey Host CMLA,

We’re loving your enthusiasm about Ultramarine and what the ship will deliver. Thank you so much to Laura and the Cruise Critic team for having us here.

The Micro Auto Gasification System (or MAGS) is such a critical component of waste management when traveling to such sensitive areas. This innovative feature converts waste into thermal energy (allowing it to power itself continuously after the initial start up process), while scrubbing any excess emissions of any pollutants. Watch this video to learn more about MAGS:

Here are a few additional sustainability features:

  • Ultramarine features a waste heat recovery system. This process allows us to safely use the engine waste heat to heat water and the air onboard to be used onboard.
  • A state-of-the-art sewage plant allows us extended operating range while only releasing clean water into the ocean.
  • Ultramarine also features two low-emission engines that decrease our limited transitional footprint in the Polar Regions.

We encourage you to watch this Sea Trials video where William Bennett, our Director of Marine Operations shares a few more details about these features:

Our team is working on creating a more detailed resource to ensure all the sustainability features of this game-changing vessel are better explained to our guests.

Have a good one,
Nicolas at Quark Expeditions
