Somehow I missed that one of the erupting volcanos was relatively close to Reykjavik. Below purports to be a photo taken from Reykjavik and the glow of the eruption can be seen!  Here is a link to a live web cam of the eruption. (This is a new cam as the last one got destroyed by stream of lava).

If this is old news to the rest of y’all, my apologies!

Wow, I wonder what it will be like when we are there. We should pass by the peninsula on our last night aboard so will get a look from the other angle as well.

It's been in the news for weeks.  Closest to airport and Blue Lagoon.  Great shot.

Update on Entry Requirements

The changes  that were announced for May 1 were actually implemented on April 27. There does not appear to have been any changes for us this time. We will still need:

  • Certificate of Vaccination or Certificate showing past infection and no longer infectious
  • Pre register no sooner than 72 hours of arrival
  • Testing upon arrival at the border (airport)
  • Quarantine until test negative test result at hotel (six hours?)

The nest update is scheduled for May 31, 2021.

Thanks for the update. I would have preferred to see the on arrival testing go away ( and we still have time for that to happen) but happy to see no roll back to more strict requirements.

Because of my Swedish heritage, I have always been interested in the Nordic countries. Iceland will be my fifth to visit. So of course I have been perusing everything about Iceland for our trip. These links are a not the usual touristy-type of video. I happen to find an Icelandic comic, Ari Eldjan, that I found very entertaining. Now I realize why when I visited Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden they were able to speak to me in English.

Our rain suits were delivered last week.  We ordered the Acme ones from Amazon for $53.  They are much nicer then we expected.  The zippers are well protected, they have real pockets not just the slip through ones, the wrists, waist and hood cinch nicely and the pants have velcro at the ankles solving the too long problem.  We haven't tried to put the pants on while wearing our boots but the opening looks big enough.  We are ready but still hope it does not rain.  They will be good wind breakers too.

I posted this on another topic and meant to post it on this topic. So if you are reading it twice I appoligize.

I just looked at the Reykjavik Port site schedule ( http://www.faxafloahafnir.is/cruiseships/index.php?l=en&w=csyear=2016#2016-9-27 ) and found that Viking appears to be adding a bunch of Iceland Welcom Back Cruises as follows:

7/22 - 29 Venus

7/24 - 31 Star (Sky)

7/27 - 8/3 Jupiter

7/29 - 8/5 Venus

7/31 - 8/7 Star (Sky)

8/3 - 8/10 Jupiter

8/5 - 8/12 Venus

8/7 - 8/14 Star (Sky)

8/10 - 8/17 Jupiter

8/12 - 8/19 Venus

8/14 - 8/21 Star (Sky)

8/17 - 8/24 Jupiter

8/21 - 8/28 Star (Sky)

8/24 - 8/31 Jupiter

8/28 - 9/4 Star (Sky)

9/4 - 9/11 Star (Sky)

The reason I have "Star (Sky)" listed is that on the cruises that appear on Viking Website everytime the Port schedule shows the Star Vikings Website shows Sky.

In any case, I don't know how many of these will really happen but if you have the ships that are seating around and you have a cruise that can sell out in 2-3 days, it makes good sense to me to keep scheling that cruise which ot appears Viking might be doing.  Interesting.

The fact that Viking has added so many new cruises around Iceland may slow the release of the shore excursions as Viking will probably use these newly added cruises to improve their negotiated pricing and services with their local shore excursion providers.  That is probably not good news for those of us that are impateint to see what shore excursions are offered and the pricing.

Aww shucks!  Why was this moved?  It was great where it was!

As the title indicates, the subject is general in nature -- "Iceland's Natural Beauty" -- rather than specific to a particular cruise or ship. That said, I have no idea why the title also says "2022."

Yeah, the date in the title is obviously a mistake.  Hopefully, one of the moderators will change it.

Because half the people who are sailing this itinerary are sailing on the Jupiter and would have no reason to come looking for a general information thread in the Viking Sky roll calls when it would normally be found in the Viking Oceans forum.  In Viking Oceans, the thread will get much more traffic than it is already getting.

Not unless somebody asks them to. They don't make such changes on their own -- and many times the request for a title change has to come from the OP.

You are welcome.  If you like dressing up for dinner, do so.  People do - women more then men - although i have seen a jacket or 2 but never a tie.  LOL, after writing about all the winter clothing we will pack, a was looking at photos of some of the potential excursion locations.  I saw people wearing T-shirts with their jackets tied around the waist.  Perhaps it can be sunny and warm there!

This brought a smile to my face regarding the tie.  My wife and I planned for a romantic evening onboard on Viking Ocean cruise a couple of years ago, including my wearing a bow tie and jacket for dinner.  We got on an elevator and I heard one of the other male passengers remark "trying to show us all up, huh?"  I laughed and said "Yes!"  We had a splendid time but did get some 'interested' looks from others.   I well remember my first cruise back in the early 80s (we saved for several months for an inside stateroom - the Song of Norway, I believe) and ties and jackets were required for every dinner!

Peace!
