As stated I like the EU guidelines and would sail under those protocols.  Just my humble opinion.

I agree that everyone has to assess their own risk tolerance but I believe many are not looking at the bigger picture of what happens with unvaccinated and Covid on board.  Time will tell as some lines will sail with unvaccinated, let’s see how that works out and how everyone’s cruise experience meets their expectations.

OMG! ACL had changed their vax policy for cruises suddenly back in March. Gave just a week's notice that pax had to be vaccinated!!!

Negative test not required?

Hope that CCL doesn't do a sudden about-face on its first cruises. Best to comply with the industry standard. 👍

That’s really poor planning.

Agree.  I went ahead after numerous cancels and settled on next spring.  I do think there will be sailings from the US this winter giving us all ample opportunity to note the outcome.  Additionally it is so premature for me to even worry about this.  We are only 4 months into vaccinations, the UK 5 and those efforts are going very well.  Spain, Greece and Italy all say they want to get this done for this summer.  That may be doubtful but for me it indicates my sailing will be just fine with a mix of vaccinated and unvaccinated.  I just don't want to be concerned about what other people do and as they said in Shogun - let them fall on their sword if they make the wrong choice.

Here's the thinking of one "educated" anti-vaxxer who might be on your ship - but probably not:

A private school in Florida told teachers and staff it will not employ anyone who receives the COVID-19 vaccine, and those who already took the vaccine would have to stay separate from students, the Associated Press reported.

Leila Centner, the co-founder of the Centner Academy in Miami and a anti-vaccination activist, told employees in a letter last week that she made the policy decision with a "very heavy heart." She asked those who have not received a COVID-19 vaccine to wait until the end of the school year to get vaccinated.

In a letter to parents, Centner included an unfounded claim that unvaccinated women have experienced miscarriages and other adverse reproductive problems from standing near vaccinated people.  😵

CDC: Vaccinated have a 94% chance of not being hospitalized for Covid-19.  Disney isn't requiring vaccinations for children,  would you refuse to take a cruise with them? Their are no guarantees in life, but I would be willing to risk it.

I wouldn’t go on a Disney cruise regardless but to answer the underlying point of your question, no I would not go.

I suspect that those of us who were at sea last March when the world came crashing down have a very different viewpoint from many who were not.

Like several people have said, I’m not afraid of sitting beside unvaccinated people if I have been vaccinated.

However, I’m very much afraid of:

Having to wear a mask everywhere but my cabin 24/7 to protect the unvaccinated.

Having casinos, bars, and entertainment closed or limited to protect the unvaccinated.

Being restricted to ship only excursions and no contact with locals, to protect the unvaccinated.

Being turned away from bucket list ports because the ship is not fully vaccinated.

Having the cruise cut short when someone brings the virus on board and it’s spreading among the unvaccinated.

Being stuck with a lockdown that restricts us to our cabins on the trip back in an ‘abundance of caution’ to protect the unvaccinated.

So on a ship, I guess I’m afraid of sitting beside unvaccinated passengers after all.

I am not an anti-vaxxer.  I was one of the first people in my county, who was not a healthcare worker, to get a vaccine.  They started on a Wednesday and I was there on Monday.  I just don't want to tell people anything about when or how they should sail on a cruise ship.  It is called picking your battles.

Again, I like the EU model, I am not asking for a free for all.

As a business owner I do get to dictate some rules to my customers. Vaccines don't usually come up though

Exactly - well said. !!! No way would we sail with unvacinated passengers!!

DW & I have decided to postpone our cruising until 2023.  Hopefully by then, this will all just be a bad memory and we won't need to worry about unvaccinated PAX ruining our cruise.

I for one am relieved.

I would not wish that experience upon anyone! I remember following the onboard experiences of you cruisers and that’s what it took to convince me that something unprecedented in my lifetime was about to hit our borders.

I guess these %s will take pressure off of HAL. In theory on one hand, they can deny they’re requiring vaccinations (and bypassing FL’s ban), but on the other have the ability to say, “sorry, all rooms available to you (i.e., the unvaccinated) are full.”

I can see the danger of allowing unvaccinated passengers onboard, and also off the ship into ports. I wonder if the unvaccinated will not be allowed to debark for excursions in some ports?

This article about the Indian variant “breakthroughs” is concerning, considering the % represented here (right now, 4 out of 41. Another report said 10 out of 55). https://m.jpost.com/israel-news/three-people-infected-with-indian-variant-inside-israel-report-666683/amp      I pray the vaccines have strong efficacy against them, time will tell.

I hope what is going on in India does not become another chapter in the Covid story for mutations.  A wildfire spread is where mutations are more common and we don’t need this virus to learn any new tricks.

Looking forward and trying to make travel plans, it's very hard to put India out of mind.  I read a lot of BBC news.  It's difficult to see such a terrible disaster and think that it will be contained to one country and that it's okay to blithely go about one's business.  It's just shocking what is happening there, given that they seemed to have things under control before.

Bottom line, I'm not taking anything for granted.

The strain is already here, just one case but one case is enough cause for worry and being monitored hard.   We don’t fool around here in this province and I suspect that zone will go into lockdown if there are any others.  I think that person did follow the rules and quarantine.

It’s such a scary scenario right now. another month will tell the tale I think and hope 🤞 that it is for the better.

As I've said before, I'm not convinced that the COVID chapter is over.  I really do STRONGLY think that getting as many people vaccinated as soon as we can is our best chance to keep new variants from popping up. Otherwise there will eventually be one (or more) for which the current vaccines are not effective.

And the anti-vaccination crowd will say see we told you the vaccines don't work instead of taking responsibility for being the ones who allowed this to happen.

It's lucky these people were not around in the past or we might still have smallpox and polio. They could say it is unproven and who knows what the future side effects will be. After all the idea of vaccinations was new when the smallpox vaccine came out and I read Jonas Salk tested his vaccine on himself, hardly a large scientific study.

I think it would have been more interesting to know the ages of the people who took the poll.  I have a suspicion that the age is skewed to above 65

I have a feeling, too, that some live in Lockdown States and some others who say in a Poll they won't Cruise unless 100% will end up Cruising and not cancel.

My feeling is that social pressure to vaccinate is now the predominant social trend and the politics of the situation are history.   It truly does all come down to the science - Pharmaceutical Science.

Horizon chaser 1957,

When you were at sea through that ordeal, how long did it take you to get back home? I recall following the boards and what you all went through was unimaginable! Also how long did it take for HAL to sort out refunds, FCCs, etc., those post-cruise aspects of the interrupted sailing?

I pray lessons were learned by the cruise lines to avoid these situations in the future.

All the Best!
