deposits???

Recommended Posts

We've blocked 10 rooms through Carnival for our family cruise next summer. Our $200/pp deposits are due at the end of May. I thought that I read somewhere that you could somehow put $25/pp deposits. How do I do this? Is this something that has to be done through a TA? Do all TAs offer that or just some? I need to let everyone in our group know how much to put down and I know that everyone would much rather just put $25/pp now instead of the $200/pp. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Julie

The $25/pp deposit is only for Official Cruise Critic Groups.

Perhaps something else in the works as well. Watch this space.

Carnival allows the $25 deposit for some group bookings (regardless of whether it is an official cc group cruise), but only for doubles (not singles, triples or quads) and only if they are booking a guarantee (cannot select your cabin number until the rest of the deposit is paid). I am not sure if Carnival offers the lower deposit to all groups or on all sailings, and some t/a's refuse to deal with the $25 deposit, because it is more work for them. You need to call your t/a and see if they are willing to do the $25 deposit, and if Carnival will allow the lower deposit for your group. If you booked directly through Carnival, you need to speak with someone from their group department to discuss this. If so they do allow the lower initial deposit, the remaining deposit will be due around 6 months prior to the cruise, and final payment will be due about 2 1/2 months before the cruise.

We've had $25 deposits on all our group cruises. I thought it was standard. But not on triples and quads on the newer ships. You can get the $25 pp deposit for triples and quads on the older ships. We got it for our quint room on our last group cruise which was in December of 2002.

Like other posters have stated, this is a group rate deposit. Carnival Group deparment ask that everyone pay a MINIMUM deposit of $25.00 within 30 days of the booking date. You will be required to make a second deposit at around an additonal 45 days to cover the full deposit (which will vary depending on how many days you are cruising) and then final payment will be due 60-70 days before you sail. On a group all you ask for is a certain number of inside, outside, balcony, suites. Cabin assignments are not made until after final payment which is great as usually they are upgraded depending on the agency status with Carnival, the size of the group and availability. As a group, you also get group amenities which can be upgrades, wine, photos or on board credit.

I used to be a TA and we had all groups pay $50.00 deposits ($25.00 which was non-refundable service charge) then set a second payment date usually 30 days out and so on and so on depending on the time before the cruise.

My suggestion to you is to find an agent you feel comfortable with and work with them. Usually Carnival will offer a group of 16 people (8 cabins) one free fare (less port charges and taxes) which the leader can take or split among all sailing to reduce the cost of the cruise.

Good luck!
