Solo cabins on Koningsdam ship to Hawaii

Recommended Posts

Would like advice on these solo cabins to Hawaii.  Is it worth the savings or better to spend more for inside or oceanview for one cruiser?  thank you for information from other solo or seasoned Holland America cruisers.

Unless things have changed, there is not much of a savings to be had by booking the solo cabins. When they first appeared on Koningsdam, there was. When HAL found out they were popular, the price increased such that a regular outside cabin is often just a bit more.

I have been in the solo cabins on Koningsdam and Nieuw Statendam. I am also scheduled for the same one on Rotterdam. I like the location, but many people don't

The solo cabin saving was $50 so I booked an inide with more room as the solo cabins are small and in the front of the ship, you will hear the anchor chains if they tender. And the ropes when they dock.

Pretty sure when I booked K'dam I wasn't even aware that there were solo cabins!  I almost always sail solo these days and typically book an inside.  At least, on HAL, I almost always have a discount when I log in (I believe they're casino fares) which gives me about 30% off, which helps.  I have >30 Carnival sailings and never get a dime off as a solo cruiser.  It's pretty annoying (and yet another reason why I want to get away from sailing them so often but all my cruise buddies just LOVE Carnival).

Anyway, there was a big price drop and I ended up upgrading myself to a verandah.  I honestly just don't get much use out of them.  It's nice to have but unless the price is really great, I just can't justify it.  I'd rather sail 4 x a year in an inside than 2 x with a balcony that gets little use.  And I much prefer to have a lower, midship cabin.  I'm not sure I'd like a forward cabin in the Pacific in case the seas were rough.

I'm booked on NCL Bliss for quasi-B2B TAs in 2023 in one of their solo cabins.  Really hope I don't hate it.  It's a lot of nights in a tiny cabin but since I spend so little time in the cabin, it should work out.
