American Queen Steamboat Announces 2022 Ohio River Sailings

"For the first time in the company’s history, three paddlewheelers will operate a full season in the Midwest, with 30 dedicated Ohio River sailings currently scheduled for 2022."

An excerpt from above:

"As the only overnight provider operating on the Ohio River, and in response to guest demand for less-traveled routes contrasting the Mississippi River headliner, the American Queen, American Duchess and the new American Countess, will provide guests the opportunity to travel through the charms of the U.S. heartland from Kentucky to Ohio to Pennsylvania."

How can they get away with saying the're the only ones operating overnight on the Ohio River?  ACL has been doing this for years.  Their Queen of the Mississippi paddlewheeler has 11-night trips scheduled throughout Aug and Sept for 2021, 2022, 2023...  Took this trip two years ago (Pittsburgh to St Louis) and enjoyed it very much.

We have taken several trips on the AQ on the Ohio River.  There are some lovely sights and towns along the river, and I think folks will enjoy these sailings.

Would you recommend the trip from Pittsburgh to Louisville?  Or the reverse—from Louisville to Pittsburgh?  Some of the main ports are the same in either direction, but the smaller ports are different.

Wandb, we have only done part of that stretch of the river. Love Madison IN, Cincinnati is interesting and we have enjoyed Maysville KY as well.  Have not been to Point Pleasant or Marietta or Pittsburgh.

I don't think you can go wrong!

So glad to hear this. Thanks for responding!  We chose the Pittsburgh to Louisville route on the Duchess in the Fall. That cruise was cancelled and we are now on the same route—-not on the Duchess and not in the Fall. We are looking forward to it—-but several friends have talked about enjoying Maysville—-which is not on our route!

I will just be happy to be back on board and on the river!!
