Adventure of the Seas - Bahamas - June Sailings’ Protocol Update

Vaccination Requirement
For Adventure of the Seas, Bahamas sailings departing before August 1, 2021 – we require that all guests 16 years and older be fully vaccinated before sailing. (All doses of your COVID-19 vaccine must be completed 14 days prior to arriving in The Bahamas.) We ask that fully vaccinated guests provide proof of vaccination prior to boarding. Anyone unable to provide proof will be considered unvaccinated. Additionally, all crew members onboard will be fully vaccinated.

Testing

Vaccinated Guests
Vaccinated guests are only required to undergo a complimentary boarding day antigen test, which our testing provider, Doctors Hospital, will administer at the British Colonial Hilton Nassau, where check-in will take place for your cruise. We decided to add this requirement to give everyone additional peace of mind as we resume cruising and apologize for the inconvenience.

Vaccinated guests do not require any other pre-cruise testing. For re-entry into your home country, you may require proof of a negative COVID-19 test. If needed, we’ll offer complimentary testing for you on Day 5 or 6 of your cruise. Additional details will be provided onboard.

Unvaccinated Guests
All unvaccinated guests 12 years and older will need to take three tests.

1. Within five days of arrival into The Bahamas, as required by local government, guests will undergo a SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR test. You will need to submit the negative SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR result as part of the Bahamas Health Visa online application process and provide proof upon arrival in the airport. Costs associated with this test are the guests’ responsibility.
2. On boarding day, guests will take a complimentary antigen test at the British Colonial Hilton Nassau, where check-in will take place. Registration details are provided below.
3. A final complimentary test will take place onboard on Day 5 or 6 as required for re-entry into The Bahamas. This test may also be used for entry into your home country, if needed. Additional details will be provided onboard.

All unvaccinated guests 2 - 11 years old will need to take two tests.

The Nassau Cruise port is undergoing a $270M makeover. Festival Place, the home of last minute souvenirs and adult beverages has been demolished along with the taxi stand, and most of the horse carriage shelter. In its place are construction trailers.

Workers hastily hang banners advertising the new port for its first passengers tomorrow. And a young man repaints the curbs to give the port a fresh look.

Bird - thanks for posting this, but it’s not correct anymore WRT testing. RCL issued new requirements today.  Starting next week you have to get an RT-PCR test at your expense prior to coming to the Bahamas.  Cruisers should check the RCL pages for updates.

please post about the airport experience

How was the airport/customs experience? We sail 7/17/21 and arrive a day early like you did.

On the flight, the flight attendant gives you the immigrations form. (Have a pen handy). Typical questions, including your passport number (have your passport handy).

You hike halfway across the airport and arrive in the immigrations hall. There were a lot of immigrations officers in the booth and an automated system to send you to the the officer, we had no waiting. They examine your passport and health visa. The young lady seemed happy when we told her that were here for the cruise.

You claim your bags. There is an exit for Bahamas, US and UK citizen and one for everyone else. Follow the signs. The Customs officers (different than immigrations officers)  have another automated line. The will ask about plants, fruits, alcohol, and tobacco. If they don’t believe you, your bags roll up on the stand and they will search them.

We got through both checks in less than 10 minutes.

(If you are flying back to the US, you clear US immigrations in Nassau).

We caught a taxi to the Hilton. Lots of taxis at the airport stand. Our driver, an older retired female, we very proud of the Bahamas and took us along the coast in a narrated tour of the island pointing our sights and homes of famous people. The taxi ride and island tour was $35 from the airport to the Hilton.

Thanks!  They just added a test at their expense for our cruise yesterday. Two other ships had COVID incidents this week.

Sad Reality

An average of 20,000 cruise passengers visit Nassau every day (>$7.2M a year). Without cruise ships, the economy is horribly depressed.

Without tourists, the normally bustling Bay Street is a ghost town with most shops shuttered. The iconic Straw Market has its storm shutters closed. And yes, even Senior Frogs is closed. There is a mask

mandate with a $250 fine and a 10pm - 5 am curfew to try and reduce the COVID.

Our taxi driver mentioned that they are praying to get some of the free vaccine that President Biden offered the world yesterday. They have only administered 62K doses and less than 8% of the population has been vaccinated. Until yesterday, the US State Department had a Level 4 (do not travel) advisory for the Bahamas due to COVID.
