Luggage for internal flights

I have a question .  We have booked the added extension to Iguazu falls from our Antarctica cruise.  In the past, it was round trip from Buenos Aires.  You left the bulk of you luggage at the hotel and retrieved it for your return trip home as the local flights only allow very limited luggage.  Now the schedule has added Rio which is awesome, but you fly home from there.  So we must keep all our luggage with us.  I have purchased the boots as well as a variety of other cold weather gear.  There is no way it will fit in a carry on.  Has anyone encountered this issue?  How have they solved it?
