Change of VIFP Status between two cruises

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I have a cruise in June which will bring me up to 66 days (still gold)

I also have a Transatlantic in November 2022 which will take me up to 80 days (Platinum)

As far as I can tell, if I am due to become Platinum on the second cruise, I'll be Platinum from check in (correct me if I am wrong!).

At the moment my cruise documents show Gold for both cruises. When will this change for the TA, I'm assuming after I've finished the June one?

Thanks!

The documents on your second cruise should change to platinum after you have cruised on the first cruise.  That's the way it worked for me.  I will be platinum on day one of my next cruise, even though I will reach the required days mid-cruise.

Am I crazy that one of the reasons I booked the June one was specifically so I'd be Platinum for my TA? 😛

It's great that you will be platinum on day one of that cruise!  We are excited at finally reaching platinum on our next cruise.

Do you know by any chance, if we are platinum but the third in our room is only blue/red, will they get to have priority boarding with us?

From everything I have read, everyone in the cabin will get priority boarding as long as one person in the room is platinum.  Maybe somebody else can verify this.

My cruise is in August, so i don't think there is priority boarding.  However, platinums and diamonds can check in two days before everyone else so that will help in choosing an early appointment.  By the time your cruise comes around, they should definitely be back to normal priority boarding.

nope not crazy at all. I've been trying to schedule in enough to be Platinum too on the TA but still need another 7 day cruise with no vacation time to get it.  heavy sigh

If one is seven days away from status change when boarding a seven-day cruise do you think the change goes into effect on that cruise, or not until the next one? I’m exactly seven days away from diamond and on a seven-day Alaska sailing next month. Thanks!

If your seven day cruise gets you to platinum status, I believe you will get platinum status on day one of that cruise.

From Carnival's website:

Will guests automatically receive recognition/benefits?

VIFP Club members will automatically move from one level to the next level based on their VIFP Points and will receive the benefits of their level on each sailing.

Guests graduating into a new level during a cruise will receive the benefits of the new level they are graduating into from the beginning of the cruise (e.g. those graduating to Gold on the 3rd day of a 5-day cruise will receive Gold benefits for the entire duration of their cruise). Please note that ‘debarkation day’ is not considered a ‘cruise day’, therefore, points are not earned for that day.

I currently have 18 VIFP points(Red) and am booked on a 7 day cruise in August which would bring me to Gold (25 points). When I pull up my booking summary, it already shows me as Gold! It doesn't do me much good, but for someone moving up to platinum, it should be on your boarding documents for priority check-in, etc.

I'm not sure how far out they would move you up, but check your booking summary and see if it's there.

I'll hit platinum on my next cruise,  but I'm not getting the two days early check-in date.  Anyone else seeing this?

Have you made your final payment? Maybe try calling, though the policy as stated above is you arent platinum until the beginning of your next cruise, which you havent boarded. You want it before the policy says you are platinum.

I have had 7 Carnival cruises cancelled in 2020 and 2021 and we were hoping to become Diamond. It didn't help when they cancelled the Sept. 2021 cruise to Hawaii from SF and moved it to Sept. 2022 with one less day.   The Bermuda cruises that were cancelled are also showing a day less in 2022.  The idea of being Diamond sounded great but we may not get there now.

Speaking as a Quality Control Specialist for a software company, it's probably because the back-end programming that determines what date to put as the check-in date is using a different process than the back-end programming that determines what level to print on the luggage tags. That should have been caught in QC testing before their latest update was released.

(taking off nerd glasses now)

I would suggest you call your PVP (if you have one) or Carnival directly and ask. I've read here somewhere that someone in your situation did that and got it corrected.

Yes.  I had to call.  After switching me to several people, they finally changed it for me.  The supervisor told me that they had just received an email about how to do it.  They couldn't just change the date.  They had to upgrade me to platinum in their system, even though I already had platinum on my paperwork.

Cool, thank you!  I was hoping someone else was in a similar situation and not just me!
