Livorno to Pisa by ship bus

Recommended Posts

If they dont, its very easy to get to Pisa by public transport.

Taxi from ship to Livorno station, train from there to Pisa. (approx 15 mins) We shared with others to the station, and did the same on the way back to the ship as other passengers came off same train as us.

Check timetables/fares etc on the www.trenitalia.it website.

Can also highly recommend Lucca. Very pretty Tuscan town, mostly pedestrianised. Walk or cycle the city walls. Lots of people on bicycles there, lots for hire. Should be lots about Lucca on ccritic, try searching the forums....and on the internet. Same train line as Pisa (and Florence) so plenty trains. Its about 15 more mins from Pisa to Lucca.

If you go there, go to Lucca first as most Italian shops etc close for 2 or 3 hours anytime from 12 noon onwards. The Leaning Tower etc in Pisa stays open so it doesnt much matter when you get there. Combining the 2 gives you a lovely day out with short travel times.

It's called a ships excursion. Click on the link below. Select Europe, then Livorno. There are several Pisa excursions . . . one includes the entrance fee to the tower and another does not. As you can see - the tours are NOT cheap. I recommend doing your homework and doing Pisa on your own. Carnival may also have a 'shuttle' for a smallar fee (5-10 pp) to the train station. Otherwise, share a cab. They'll be waiting at the pier. From there you can catch a train to Pisa.

Hello, We used the bus that the port authorities provided from the port to the town centre of Livorno. The bus dropped us off near to the local bus station, from there we got a bus to the train station and then the train into Pisa, very easy and only cost a few euros. You will save a few minutes by taking a taxi directly to the train station but ask the fare before you get in. Be careful when using public transport, in Italy you have to buy your tickets for bus and trains before you get on, ( ticket booth near to the bus and train station, you can also purchase tickets from shops and stalls nearby ) As you get onto the bus ( normally by the middle or back doors ) there is a machine and you must put your ticket into it, it puts a mark or a hole on your ticket which validates it. The same is done at the train station, either use the machines just before you get to the platform or the machines on the platform ( watch the locals, they will all be doing this. )

If you do not have a validated ticket and are stopped by a guard or bus conductor you could get a very heavy fine !!!!!!!!!!!
