Pictures taken between Monday, July 12 and Sunday, July 18.

Just. Take. More. Pictures.

Rules: See above

That's it. This isn't a contest.

All photos taken this week are welcome (not just cruising).

Prizes will not be awarded. Discovering the joy of photography is the prize.

The idea is to get folks out using their cameras for more than vacations and toddler birthdays.

Post one. Post many. Up to you.

Have fun with your camera and share your fun with others!

For August, my camera club competition set topic is "Abandoned". So i have abandoned the seaside this week and headed a couple of suburbs over to Denim City. It was a major textile factory. For the last 8 or so years, it has been mooted as a major new suburb development (you be the judge).

All very arty. I think the last 1 will be an entry.

Long day at the rink. Two competitions before a nice lunch at Vince's Spaghetti (thanks, Mary Louise!) and one after. Three first place wins. Our little ice skater has been hailed by her coach as the one that doesn't need infinitely repetitive training as she remembers the details of lessons and techniques and works hard to perfect them during her own free time. At a recent birthday party, she raced our adult grandson through a rented inflatable obstacle course and beat him (he may have held back a little, but maybe not...), He told her, “you won!” She said, “yes I did!” He asked, “Do you always have to win?”, and she answered, “yes I do!” That’s our Jackie. A dainty, lovely little girl with the heart of a lioness. Anything that gets in her way ends up with a Jackie-shaped hole in it.

Hit the wetlands on the 17th last Saturday, but didn't get around to offloading and uploading the photos from card to galleries until yesterday...so, here are some of the critters that day, while walking through the raindrops:

Alligator cruising in the water, not minding the rain at all:

High cuteness factor with this pied-billed grebe chick:

Brown basilisk lizard perched on a branch to do a little sunbathing:

A purple gallinule, climbing to the top of the reeds to get at the flowers and buds, which is the only part they like to eat:

A yellow-crowned night heron juvenile, standing backlit against a bright sky, staring with those big orange eyes:

Speaking of eyes, none are more beautiful and inviting than those of the double-crested cormorant - looking like the jeweled blue waters of the Caribbean:
