Age, is there a minimum limit?

Hello!

we are looking into a Saga Cruise on Spirit of adventure.
We live in Norway and must book by phone, since we can’t book online and they don’t have a travel agent in Norway.
But that’s okay for us, we will manage.

But we browsed the FAQ and it was a question: how old must you be to travel on Saga….
Must you be 50+ to be able to book a Saga Cruise?
We have searched on several cruise lines and Saga is definitely the best choice for what we want.
We are seasoned travellers and we have been on several river cruises were we are the only guests under 50+. But we have a great time and it doesn’t matter for us. We are on holiday and just want to relax and take it slowly.

The age limit is part of their booking terms and conditions, it is not just that the holidays are targeted at the 50 plus, you have to the right age to make a booking. So if you are under 50, something to look forward to.

Oh, that’s not good news for us….

We want a longer Norwegian/Spitsbergen cruise and X that we normally do for ocean cruises  only have 7-days Norwegian fjords. It’s to short and not correct destination.
We prefer 10+ days. Azamara is not offering the route we want.

We won’t travel on Hurtigruten again. We have taken the 12-days route Bergen-Kirkenes-Bergen journey. It’s okay for shorter trips, but never again on a full tour. And as of now they are treating their Norwegian guests as something the cat dragged inside…. They cancel guests last moments and don’t offer anything. And they cancel stops as they like. So now way we want to spend lots of cash on them.

Fred Olsen cruises is offering a similar itinerary, but it’s more expensive, no drinks included and on an old ship.
So we are not sold on them.

Aida cruises is also offering a itinerary that tick of the right stops. More expensive then Saga, no drinks and lover level of service.

But again it’s mainly for the germane market. We speak and read German, so the language barrier is not a huge problem. But we feel they fit in profile for Carnival cruises? And that scares us to death…..

Have a look at P&O. Their new, larger ships are sailing Norway, although sadly, not Spitsbergen. However, when Aurora and Arcadia resume service they are worth looking at for these itineraries. Otherwise Oceania might be a good fit. The new Saga ships are lovely but yes, there is a lower age limit for at least one of the guests.

We did a fabulous Midnight Sun cruise with Viking a couple of years ago, so that might be worth considering.  Did a P&O Arcadia one to Spitsbergen a while ago, and whilst it was a great experience I’d no longer recommend P&O to anyone, especially if you’re looking to avoid a ‘Carnival’ experience!  Fred Olsen does have older ships, and they are pricey, but the atmosphere onboard is lovely, and we’ve enjoyed many cruise with them in years gone by (did a Northern Lights cruise with them once, which remains in my top 5 cruise experiences).  These days we’re total Viking addicts and I’m only lurking on these boards as we’re not keen to fly at the moment, so I’m trying to work up some enthusiasm to try Saga.

If you are between 40 and 50 ,if so perhaps find some friends over 50 to go with you. I don't know if travelling companions applies to a group  or just one cabin. If it applies to group booking you can be their travelling companions.  Ask Saga, a quick e-mail.
