For our cruise we couldn’t get fixed dining so we’ll be dining mainly in specialty restaurants and we are waitlisted for a couple of tours. We didn’t book until last Saturday so we may just do walking tours and maybe sample some prime local cuisine.

Main objective is to be back on a ship at sea. Verandha, good book, binoculars in hand enjoying the natural beauty. We’ll be in our Happy Place!

So, she'll be coming in 2:00 pm Pacific, or 5:00 pm Eastern., correct?

L.

Looks to me that she'll be in a bit early; It's 1210 hrs. here on the left coast and she's about to pass Grand Island. From there, it's crossing where Stephens Passage and Taku Inlet meet, then up the Gastineau Channel past Marmion island (usually a pilot call heard on the Juneau webcam). She should be arriving a little after 1300 hrs PST

This might sound funny but there is a good Mexican restaurant - El Sombrero - on Franklin Street in Juneau (walking distance from the ship). Just in case you and the Mrs. have a craving for Mexican while in Alaska 😉 We had a muy rico lunch on that balcony last time

Nieuw A in trail of a small vessel by the name of "Knot to Worry" (pretty cool) just south of the entrance to Gastineau Channel - Listen for the pilot calling the HAL Juneau agent as she passes small Marmion island

OK, so no "Marmion Island" call from Nieuw A's southeastern Alaska pilot. At times, they will call in a further up the channel. She just passed "Knot to Worry" on her port side

No, the new kid on the block: Vacaya. Much better!

Clever: “VACAYA” is a word from Polari, a centuries-old language used by the gay subculture to discreetly communicate. Alongside that, the slang word “vacay” has become a casual mainstream term for vacation.
