Tipping

I understand gratuities are included on Seabourn but if you have room service or coffee brought to your suite is a dollar or two standard. We will be on the Odyssey next week.

No, tipping a little for each service is not the norm. Some people choose to tip their favorite staff members at the end of the cruise, while others feel this is not necessary with a tips-inclusive cruiseline. Some people make a contribution to the crew fund, which benefits both the people you interact with (waiters, bartenders, housekeeping) who serve you as well as the unseen crew members who toil on our behalf unseen (think: kitchen, laundry, mechanical staff).

I agree - NOT tipping for things like room service is the norm. I must say I felt a little funny at first about the "no tip" policy after having cruised on many other lines. But room service is truly superb and never any "awkward" moment. Try a meal in your suite - what a treat!  We can't wait for our cruise in Oct!

Unlike other lines, you aren't constantly signing for items. You won't see people walking around with their cruise card on a lanyard simply because you aren't having to present it left and right for every little thing. It takes a bit getting used to if you have only ever sailed mass market.

As others have stated tipping, especially for room service is not the norm, and likely to make your steward uncomfortable.

You can apply unused OBC to the fund.

Sorry, it’s dosh, not dish. But same outcome. The crew fund dosh is used for crew members who have family emergencies and the like.

If you can, that would be a new policy.

 

In the past, you could not give unused OBC directly to the crew fund, but you could buy candy, etc., with it and give that to be distributed to the  crew.

There are many different opinions on this, and it really is a personal choice. No one will be actively soliciting tips. As for us, we usually tip the room stewardess ,and contribute to the crew fund. BTW, the crew will know that you contributed, because they will probably thank you. The one thing that they REALLY appreciate, is that you’re always pleasant when dealing with them, and complimenting them on the end of cruise comment card

I recall we did it in one of our cruises.  We usually don't have any OBC left at the end.

There are two types of onboard credit. Credit dished out from Seabourn cannot be used like cash -- e.g. can't be contributed to the crew fund or refunded. Credit from outside sources, such as a travel agent of credit card company where the entity has actually paid Seabourn, is refundable and can therefore be used to contribute to the crew fund.
