Best Recommendation for Nassau

A lot of people would say stay on the ship.

You should add some context about what you enjoy etc. without that you might as well google top things to do in Nassau?

My wife and I just walked to a rum cake place , the fort , the staircase , a chocolate making place , shopped at the straw market and got conch fritters through a window in some random wall we passed.

Oh we also went into the library that was a jail? and saw the government buildings

We go St Francis Xavier cathedral (https://www.stfrancisxaviercathedral.org/mass-schedule) if the ship is there on Sunday and the timing works out.

We've gone twice before and they are always welcoming.

Talk about a real taste of local culture while enjoying Mass!

Once when we were there, they called anyone with an anniversary/birthday/etc. up for a special blessing. It was our anniversary month, so we went up and were made to feel right at home.

Not sure how Covid may have affected cruisers attending, but we plan to find out in November.

We've done that too.  After we went to the Cricket Club for lunch, and some folks recognized us from church, so we joined tables and spent the next couple hours solving the world's problems over conch and beers.

We love going to the Fish Fry for Lunch.  it's about 5 minutes from the port by taxi.  Try the 'Call a Cab' at Goldie's. you'll thank me later😉

Get the conch fritters. The conch is usually caught that morning.

Do a food walking tour. We always do them when we visit new ports, it's a great opportunity to see the sights with a local, learn some history and have the chance to sample some authentic cuisine that  you might not otherwise have tried.

Then the next time you go to Nassau, Bahamas you'll have a few favorite spots you'll want to visit for lunch.

We did a tour with True Bahamian and loved it.

We're doing another one next February booked through the cruise line.

So there shouldn't be any more world problems then!!!

John Watling's Distillery for a tour and awesome pina coladas!

Yay! We are planning on stopping at the distillery, too.  I'm looking forward to a delicious pina colada. 😉

My husband and I have always enjoyed at least a few hours in Nassau. Definitely recommend John Watling's (it's a nice stroll from the cruise port) and Pirate Republic Brewing Company (just outside of the cruise port). We've spent a couple of hours just enjoying beers and conch in their upstairs dining room.

For what it's worth, I was in Nassau 2 weeks ago. The daily cruise compass on the Oasis said DON"T eat the conch. They said there's some type of bacteria in it, and you could risk some serious stomach issues. I really enjoy the fritters, but didn't want to risk ruining the rest of the cruise.

Some perspective on the tainted conch issue.

Since both conch fritters and cracked conch are deep fried, that should eliminate the problem.

Agree that eating conch salad  or ceviche from street vendors is very risky!!

We enjoyed the TruBahamian one too - one of the few times we enjoyed Nassau!

All of these suggestions are great! Just found out our cruise is stopping in Nassau instead of Dominican Republic. Has anyone done any of the resort day passes recently, since covid? I wasn't sure how up to date some of the hotel websites were regarding day passes. I did a day pass at Melia years ago, and we've stayed at Baha Mar and Atlantis (all pre-covid.)

There is a small zoo called Ardastra Zoo....which is really nice. It is a small zoo with many exotic birds walking around and they also haver big cats. It is open now on Fridays to Sundays...or with a group tour during the week if planned https://ardastra.com/  I would say it is an hour and a half visit off the beaten path and easy to get to. We walked one time.
