Slot Newbie

I always put a bit of money and time into the slots on cruises and when we go the the casino for dinner/music.

I am ready to get serious and learn. We have three cruises booked over the next year with Carnival.

Please any help,  advice or links. TIA

Bobbi

The best advice that I could give to any type of gambling is to set and stick to a good stop loss strategy both in the upswings and more importantly the downswings.  Also be progressive with your betting.  That is the only way except for hitting a mega jackpot or many smaller jackpots that you have a chance at beating the house big.

Whether I am playing tables(mostly) or slots I have a step up method for winning.  Example, I start with $1000 and I build it to 1500, I then set a stop loss at 1400.  When I hit 2000, I stop loss at 1800, 3000 stop loss at 2500.  Once you hit your stop loss, get up and book a win no matter how small it is.  You have to be willing to lose multiple buy-ins.  In other words do not start your session with $1000 if you only have a $2000 gambling budget for the trip.  10 buy-ins is a realistic number to put at risk whatever your stakes may be.

Lesson #1: Expect to lose everything you put in the machine.

Lesson #2: As above, plan your stop loss. Once you hit that number, call it quits.

Lesson #3: Slots are all about luck. You can put $1,000 in and lose it all. The second you get up, someone drops in $5, runs it, and hits a jackpot. There is no skill in it at all.

Lesson #4: The house has an edge in everything. Everything can be tweaked to determine whether it is 52/48, 60/40, etc.

Lesson #5: For every one winner, there are multiple losers. If you are on the winning side, be happy.

I have read on a different forum that if you want to get some type of casino offer, you need to spend a minimum of $300 (some cruiselines consider bingo gambling as well). Also time spent in the casino is as importanat as amount spent. $300 over an hour is better than $300 in one hand. If slots, then progressive, max spend is the better way to go.  There are groups on FB that talk about it. I am no expert, I just play for fun. I wholeheartedly agree with Lesson # 5 above.

I would say time and money is based on what you are playing.  Slots are what they are.  Pretty sure Royal does 1 point per $5 of play on the slots, not sure what others due.  So if you go in and drop $100 in a machine and do 4 spins at $25 and lose all 4, you will end up with same amount of points as if you did $2.50 spins and loss every spin, but you will have spent a lot longer in the casino.  For sure they are tracking how long you are playing in the casino and that may play a role in offers, but points wise it's all about the $ played on the slots.

Table games though is all about time and money and very subjective.
