Belgium on Easter Sunday

Hello all,

 

We are going to be docking at Zeebrugge on Easter Sunday next year. I was wondering if the chocolate shops will be open then? We'll either going to Ghent or to Blankenburg .

I checked with a friend who lives in Belgium, in Gent until very recently.

Her answer was that shops don't open on Sundays generally but might be in Brugge.

Thanks very much for asking your friend Hattie. Hmm you’d think P&O would visit on the Saturday, perhaps they’ll change it!

I can’t speak to Easter,, but I was in Belgium years ago on Veteran’s Day or Armistice Day. Belgium was arguably the most impacted nation in WWI. Brussels was pretty much shut down. But the trains ran, and Brugge was fully open. I suspect the tourist areas will be business as usual, but maybe not until after morning services/mass. Sundays are always hit and miss on the Continent, other than businesses that primarily service tourists.
