Birthday celebration questions

My wife, mother-in-law and I are sailing on the upcoming transatlantic on Splendor. It’s a “big” birthday celebration for my wife, but the birthday itself is the day before we embark. Will Regent acknowledge her birthday even though it’s technically before we sail, or should I contact them? If they do, what should I expect? (I know on Crystal, for example, it is posted in Reflections.) Thanks for any advice!

In our experience, Regent will not automatically acknowledge her birthday, especially if it occurs before sailing.  Have your TA or contact Regent before sailing to advise them you'd like to celebrate her birthday with the specific date for the celebration.  In the pre-COVID era, this would usually result in some decorations in the suite along with a small cake, and maybe again at the dining venue that night...always good to mention/remind the maitre'd as you arrive.

I don't recall ever seeing birthdays/anniversaries/etc. publish in the daily bulletins...a privacy concern, I imagine.

You can also arrange a cocktail party in your suite if you have friends, new or long-time, on board.  If you are in a butlered suite, just ask them to arrange it.  In other suites, you can coordinate with the steward/room service to have comestibles and drinks like wine or beer provided.

Bottom line is that they'll make a fuss if you want it, but won't automatically intrude.

We have celebrated birthdays and our anniversary several times. Let them know (maybe through your TA) the day you want to celebrate. We usually ask for a bottle of champagne on ice to be deliverd to our cabin while we are at dinner. Most times we have picked a night that we had reservations for a specialty restaurant. (Also let the restaurant know) We hwve had some very nice surprises for our celebration how ever one time they completely forgot. They did it all over again on another night.

We booked a cruise for my wife’s 70th, she wanted to be at home with the kids and grandkids the actual day of her birthday, so we booked the next available cruise, at the time of booking my travel explained all this to Regent UK and they have promised to decorate the suite with balloons etc., for the day we join the ship. Will also mention it again in the butler request form in the my account section of the Regent website.

They will do it - they don't care if it is the actual day or not. They are plenty profitable and the incremental labor charge is $0.

  • 2 weeks later...

One year on my wife's birthday, we got escorted down to Prime 7 by our butler, everyone wished her a happy birthday, the GM stopped by our table and sang Happy Birthday to her, and they had a special dessert for her.

This was in addition to the balloons and banner in our cabin and the announcement on the CCTV system.  All in all a nice, special day for her.

This was exactly my experience on Splendor last week, loved it. Only difference we ate  in Pacific Rim.
