Ensenada suggestions

I'm happy with you all helping me get more info on Cabo.. now I have a few questions on Ensenada.  We will have our adult kids with.. 18 and 20.  We were thinking of doing the resort excursion instead of the atv/dune buggy excursion since our kids won't be able to drive them.   Is the resort a good option as I heard you get dropped off and can shop after?   We are coming in on the Carnival Miracle.  Any other suggestions?   Thank you!!

If you’re into zip lining, and it’s open (pandemic and all), they have a fun one there. It would be an independent one, not from the ship. If you want to go shopping, the market around La Bufadora is fun.

Only resort I would think about would be the Estero Beach Hotel in the Ensenada area.  It's really the only hotel with a decent beach although the pool is just ok.  I would only go on a nice day when it's warm.

other suggestions

Tourist zone:

  1. "La Guerrerense" seafood cart for award winning street food that is super good and of high quality.  If you don't want to eat off of the cart they have a sit down restaurant on the other side of the street in a small plaza
  2. "Hussong's Catina" which is the oldest continuously operating bar in Baja.  Give a local business your money rather than yet another corporate "Pappas and Beer" which is on the corner.
  3. "Bar Andaluz" which is my call for the home of the Margarita.  It's located in an old hotel/casino that has been converted into a civic center.

My other go to location for visitors is Valle de Guadalupe for some wine and lunch.  This is especially a good call when it is cloudy at the beach.

I am personally not a big fan of "La Bufadora" but to each their own.  II haven't been to the park that has zip lining so I can't comment on that.

My favorite breweries are "Aguamala" and "Transpeninisular" but those require a cab ride or car like Valle.  If you go to Valle, you can hit up a brewery on the way back to the ship.

Enjoy!

Over Christmas, I'll probably do the horseback excursion since I've never been on a horse before and also the views look great along the trail and the excursion is like less than $100.

It's probably not practical for you, but I would recommend the following to anyone looking to ride horses in the Rosarito-Ensenada corridor.

This is a great charity and provides trails rides.  I know some people who have also gotten rescue dogs there.

Have you done this tour? I am thinking of booking through Carnival.

I haven't done a cruise line tour of Ensenada breweries. We live about an hour north half the year (Coronado CA) or so and have done several organized brewery and wine tours and many beer and taco trips on our own as well. Ensenada is making a splash in the craft brewing world that San Diego is already famous for.

Do they offer pick up at the port?  This looks like something we would like to do.

Very true.  The closest to the pier would most likely be Wendlandt.  They also have a restaurant for getting lunch above and beyond tasting the beer.

They are a non-profit, run mostly by volunteers

Correct, the only paid staff are there to help care for the animals/ranch.   If someone wanted to visit from a cruise, they would need to hire a cab or rent a car.  Also, I would call them in advance before coming.  I think the rides are mostly on weekends.
