Ever get a table for 13?

We had nine of us traveling and wife's family just decided to join in the fun, bringing out total to 13.  Has anyone had any luck with a table of 13? I think 12 is the max.

In some cases 10 is actually the max. With the size of your party, they will split you into probably a group of 6 and 7. Just read on FB about how some ships are only doing 8, per CDC recommendations. Poster was quite upset as 2 people always had to sit separately for the duration of the cruise.

oh no, they were delegated to the "kids" table. 🙂

We typically cruise with a group of friends, sometimes as many as 12. We used to get one, big table and had everyone sit at the same table. Conversations were a pain in the A$$. We have changed our way of thinking. Now, when our group is more than six, we ask for two tables next to each other. We rotate seats every night so we can sit with different people. It makes for a much more enjoyable dining experience with no one yelling to teach other.

Gee, life is too short to get all riled up over small matters. In these trying post-pandemic times, travelers should be thankful, kind, travel with plenty patience, take lemons and make lemonade!

 

Easy fix: rotate 8 of the travel group members nightly so all can enjoy each other's company.

We have traveled with large family groups 15 to 25 over the years. We’ve never been able to get a table of more than 10 people. Sometimes we say girls table and boys table, sometimes it’s adults and kids, sometimes we use a random  number generator to assign tables.    Every night we try to mix it up to make sure everyone has a chance to sit near everyone at some point over the cruise.
 

With more than 10 people at a table it’s pretty hard to talk with everyone anyway.

 

I would suggest you discuss it before the cruise, otherwise you might get one or two people who does say that they are going to decide every night. That is only happened at once and was a little awkward. From then on, we set a general framework.  
 

The great majority of the people really don’t care I just want to have fun and have a chance to talk to everybody. Sometimes you get those one or two people that make it difficult for everybody else. So best to discuss it before if you think that might happen in your group

There were 12 of us once at a large round table. You could only have conversations with the folks on either side of you ... and the people on the other side of the table seemed to think you'd heard what they were saying when you ran into them later. I later traveled with my family (group of 12) and we requested two 6-tops. It was great. We mixed and matched every evening. It's not only workable ... it's more enjoyable.

If we did a family trip with all 13….  I’d definitely be asking for 11 and me and wife at the nearby(ish) 2 top.  🙂

I wanted to book our party of 12 this way, but the "kids" (20 somethings) insisted we book one giant table.  I'm actually concerned that dinner will take a ridiculously long time because of this, but we'll see.

You’re right about 8 being the max.  We just booked on the Ovation and was told that 8 is the max.

Table for 13?  Doubtful.  Usually you can't even get an elevator to take you to deck 13.

Get two tables , thats what a large group did last cruise. They put all the kids at one table and the parents sat at another table. 

We felt sorry for the servers , with the kids tossing food at each other and standing on the chairs .

We heard them ask for the same tables for next evening , so we asked for a table at the other end of the dining room the next night. 

The parents were very disrespectful of everyone around them and of the servers.

Get someone really loaded prior to dinner each night, don’t help them to the dining room. Problem Solved.

Growing up with 7 brothers and three sisters we had 13 around the same kitchen table for 5 years.

We learned life around that table.  We also learned manners, just not all of them.

Seen tables with 10-12 almost every Cruise. Agree with you was OP get 2 medium size Tables

We had a group of 18 and were able to get 3 tables close together.  We had the same waiter so it wasn't a problem switching tables to sit with everyone.  Conversations were much better. And this was the late sitting so might be easier to arrange then Mytime or the early sitting.
