Question about islands

A lesbian couple is looking at booking a cruise with my wife and I and they had heard that some ports still are not safe for the LGBT community.  Is this still the case and is so, which ports?  We are looking at Cozumel, Belize, and Roatan.  I know I've seen LGBT members on many cruises, but never once thought about if they felt safe off the ship in the ports.

The only consistently unsafe island stop I skip is Jamaica. While you’d be safe taking a sponsored excursion and staying in a group, the long history of anti-LGBT activities there are enough for me to stay on ship (and ask for my port fees to be refunded).

Thank you.  I never even though about them having issues in ports until they brought it up, so I told them I would do some checking and get back to them.

If they are planning on traveling on the islands with you and your wife, I think there is even less likelihood of being bothered as opposed to being by themselves.

Do cruise lines actually refund port fees for a specific port for this reason?

Yes, I have done this on both Azamara and NCL after reading about it here I think.
