DreamOf Posted December 2, 2021 #1 Share Posted December 2, 2021 We will be sailing in June on Holland's Eurodam to Alaska. There are no flights leaving early enough from our airport on the day of departure to be able to arrive in time to sail, so we are flying in the day before. My question: Is it better to stay near the airport in a hotel that offers free transportation from the airport to the hotel and then find alternate transportation from the hotel to the port on the day we depart; or arrange for transportation directly from the airport to a downtown hotel near the port the day before? Thanks for your suggestions.
fastpitchdad Posted December 2, 2021 #2 Share Posted December 2, 2021 Do you want to see any of Seattle before you leave? There is nothing worth seeing near the airport hotel area. I believe you will leave from Pier 91 which isn't close to any hotels (at least where you would even think about walking) but it is also north or town and the airport is south so your cab/uber/lyft ride will be about the same total length whether one trip or two. You could always take the lightrail to Westlake (several Hotels around there) from the airport and the take the relatively short cab ride from there in the morning if you are looking to save a little transport money. CruiserBruce Posted December 2, 2021 #3 Share Posted December 2, 2021 Is it "better" in what way? All the action, things to do and see, all that, is downtown. Yes, HAL sails from Pier 91.
psuboater Posted December 2, 2021 #4 Share Posted December 2, 2021 Agree with everyone above, there's nothing to do near the Airport, so you'd have a long day in the SEA-TAC area before your flight the next day. I'd recommend getting a hotel downtown so you can enjoy your day and then arrange for transportation to the airport (or, depending on where your hotel is, you can take the light rail directly to the airport). Glaciers Posted December 3, 2021 #5 Share Posted December 3, 2021 It would be easier to explore by staying downtown. Some of the hotels downtown can get a bit pricey during the summer but you don’t need to stay in the downtown core to explore. One of the closer hotels to the cruise terminal you’ll depart from is the Mediterranean Inn on Lower Queen Anne/Uptown. There are many restaurants in the area as well as the Seattle Center/Space Needle which is a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. From there the monorail is a short ride to downtown. sailor05 Posted January 14, 2022 #6 Share Posted January 14, 2022 (edited) We're just looking for a place to crash so we're staying at the Comfort Inn and Suites by the airport. We're arriving late and with the time zone difference of 3 hours we will CRASH. Any suggestions on how to get to port for 8 people without the hassle of trains?? We'll be bringing plenty of luggage and don't want to mess with trains. On the flip side we do want to explore when we return so we'll stay downtown somewhere reasonable. Rare Ferry_Watcher Posted January 14, 2022 #7 Share Posted January 14, 2022 For 8 people with lots of luggage you probably need to hire a chauffeured service (maybe a15 person passenger van), or two Uber XLs. (Tip- no need to overpack!). Just make sure everyone has their own travel documents (gov't issued birth certificate is the minimum you need), proof of vaccine, and negative test results. Finding a 'reasonably' priced hotel room in Seattle in the summer might be a challenge. You may want to start looking now for availability for such a large group. Seattle Express is your best option for transportation to the pier from the SeaTac area. We have used them many times and have never been disappointed. sellwingri Posted January 26, 2022 #9 Share Posted January 26, 2022 How long does it take to get to the airport from the pier? If I remember correctly, a 12pm flight home is doable.
