Fredric22 Posted January 3, 2022 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2022 Just wrapping up a 4 day New Year's cruise on the Elation. I haven't seen a report from the Elation in a bit so I thought I'd just give a quick update. Overall, ship is looking good. The new areas (Alchemy bar, limelight lounge, dining rooms, cabins) are really nice! The rest of the ship could use an upgrade as well but I'm glad Carnival did put some money into this old gal. As far as covid protocols, it seemed pretty similar to my Mardi Gras cruise in August. Enforcement for masks was really confined to the well known areas (casino, buffet, piano bar etc.). I thought it was generally OK and Carnival was doing a good job between being realistic with peoples' behavior and enforcing their own rules. That was until tonight, however. We decided to see a comedy show in the Limelight lounge and witnessed the comedy club manager take mask enforcement way too far. He would literally walk around the comedy club while the comedians were performing and find people who were drinking or who had their mask below their nose. I watched him go up to someone drinking (literally glass in mouth) and tell him that he was taking too long to sip. He would not leave until the man put the mask back over his mouth. This happened numerous times and was so distracting. The worst part was when he decided to continuously scold a developmentally disabled young man for not having his mask over his nose. I felt so bad for the father who was doing his best to make sure his mask was in place. After seeing him interact with this young man with very little tact and clearly no training with trying to speak to someone who is developmentally disabled we decided to get up and leave. What an awful, sour taste to end the cruise on! I'm not sure who to even complain to at Carnival about this situation but it really was just uncalled for. Honestly if masking in the comedy club is so important they should not even sell drinks in the lounge. Or perhaps they can move the show to the outside stage area. I also don't think a comedy club manager should be doing mask enforcement. Perhaps have someone from security around if that needs to happen. Anyway, other than that the cruise was lovely and the crew are eager to please. If you're going on the Elation soon you'll be in for a nice trip. Just be warned about the comedy club...
Guest BasicSailor Posted January 3, 2022 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2022 Welcome home, sometimes the crew being overworked can cause them to be stressed, as they're multitasking and overloaded with work while other staff members are in quarantine. Perhaps with this new virus, Omnicrom their superiors are pressuring them to enforce the rules. These are not easy times for sure.
