What is the likelihood that NCL will require covid tests this spring and summer for cruises boarding in Europe? Although my Dawn cruise from Stockholm is not until Aug. 16, I am starting to research how and where I can get a covid test in Stockholm before boarding the ship. A covid test is no longer needed to enter Sweden by air from the US. I will be staying there for 2 nights before the cruise. If the country where the cruise starts does not require a covid test why would NCL require it?

Allthough this is not the topic you are asking about, you do realize that if your cruise has itinerary in the Baltic sea it may very well not happen due to the risk of international war in that region if Russia decides to attack Ucraine this spring....? Nato ships and Nato soldiers from many different countries are already being deployed to all the neighouring countries, to be prepared if something happens within the next few months....

And IMO that is a much more valid question to ask yourself before doing the final payment than if you would risk to pay €50 for a covid-test...

Afaik you will likely still have to provide proof of vaccination/recent recovery in order to get into most EU countries for the foreseeable future. The EU authorities actually made a change to our covid certs so they now have expiry dates, 270days from your last booster or 90days from an infection, that criteria will likely apply to foreign visitors.

it’s quite possible the cruise lines will just follow that template if individual countries don’t introduce their own specific restrictions.
yes most European countries are in the process of unwinding the restrictions they introduced for covid, but all it takes is another variant raising it’s head to change that. Also some countries have had less than desired levels of vaccine take-up so some of them have actually increased restrictions to make life harder for the unvaccinated, or have brought in mandatory vaccination laws.

It´s 270 days from your full vaccination cycle which means the second shot (or 1 J&J). There is no expiration date for the booster (third shot) yet in Europe!

Not the information we’re being told in Ireland. Your covid cert gets updated/reset when you receive a booster, so it’s 270 days from that booster at the moment… obviously the data on the longevity of effectiveness of the boosters isn’t clear as yet so that may change.

Just to avoid any confusion, this is directly from the EU page regarding validity after a booster shot:

Validity of certificates issued after a booster shot

At this stage, the Commission does not propose a validity period for certificates issued based on booster shots. This means that the 9-month validity period should not apply to certificates issued following booster shots. It can be expected that protection from booster vaccinations may last longer than that resulting from the primary vaccination series.

The Commission will closely monitor newly emerging scientific evidence on this issue. On this basis, the Commission may, at a later stage, propose if necessary to introduce a validity period also for vaccination certificates issued following a booster if necessary.
