Rare orville99 Posted February 27, 2022 #1 Share Posted February 27, 2022 (edited) We pulled in to the garage at 11:30, and paid for the week by credit card. Within an hour DW’s card was hit with a $933 bogus charge from a big box store in Rockledge (south Cocoa). The breviary county sheriff is sending a deputy over to investigate. smokeybandit Posted February 27, 2022 #4 Share Posted February 27, 2022 Was there any other place you used your card recently that someone could have seen your card? That's a really fast turnaround to make a transaction especially since they wouldn't have gotten your card's CVV.

BTW you don’t necessarily need a CVV for an online transaction.

Yes, but you can run a card without the CVV. Sometimes the customer says it's illegible. I find this to be especially true with mens' cards that get a lot of wear in their wallets or money clips. We've had both hand keyed phone and internet sales go through without the CVV - our POS machine just asks the reason why it can't be entered. Terminal pier 1 for RCL did not require CVV when we parked there in late Dec 2021 Harmony of the Seas. Just inserted credit card in and once it got approved the receipt slip spitted out. Very concern about this info
Rare orville99 Posted February 27, 2022 Author #10 Share Posted February 27, 2022 what is critical to understand is that a skimmer captures all of the data necessary to make a purchase without havng the physical card.
poocher Posted February 28, 2022 #11 Share Posted February 28, 2022 Has whomever is in charge of the terminal 1 garage been made aware?

I have had some purchases asking for the CVV and other times NOT. So the CVV is not always required, and I have NEVER been asked when used in a machine. Once a report is filed with the Sheriff, they will find out through them when they investigate. But, that is very fast to have a charge made. Skimmers have to be removed and the data downloaded. And a lot of the time, the data is sold which doesn't happen in an hour. If it was a skimmer, the OP would not be the only "victim". When working the desk at our antique mall, I could bypass the cvv number. This was an in-person purchase and over the phone.
