Bwana Tom Posted March 30, 2022 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2022 I would appreciate any info you folks might have on how far the cruise port is from the Rome airport. And do the hotels usually have shuttle service, as well as any recommendations for close hotels? Thanks, Tom
LJJQ Posted March 30, 2022 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2022 Tom, We will be taking a Transatlantic cruise out of Rome port in October but staying in the city for three days! It is about an hour from Rome to the port! The hotels normally don’t have shuttle service. We booked Bobs limo for our transfer. https://www.romelimousines.com/ Excellent price! Rare cruisemom42 Posted March 30, 2022 #3 Share Posted March 30, 2022 There are two airports in Rome (neither one has the code ROM): the largest is Leonardo da Vince (code FCO), which is where most long-haul flights go, particularly from the US. The other one is Ciampino (CIA) where some smaller flights from Italy and other points in Europe fly. The airport is about 35-45 minutes from the city of Rome, which in turn is about an hour and 15 or so minutes from the port. There is no good location that is convenient to all three. Your best option if you want to sightsee in Rome (and you should) is to stay IN Rome. As already stated, hotels do not generally offer shuttles either to the airport or to the port, however they can help you arrange them. Taxis from the airport are plentiful and there is a flat fee of 48 euros from the airport to any central Rome hotel, just be sure you mention you want the fixed rate when you get in. There are a number of ways to get to the port, from the cheap train service to expensive private cars. It would be a good idea to do some reading on the board here to see what might suit you and your party best.
BCHappyGal Posted April 2, 2022 #4 Share Posted April 2, 2022 Be aware the airport (FCO) is between the port and Rome so if you are flying in arealy to sightsee in Rome than you transfer and stay in Rome but when you go to the port you will pass by the airport and I would allow a 2 hours for the transfer from your hotel in Rome to the port always dependant on the location of your hotel in Rome and traffic If going direct to the port from teh airport allow yourself 45 minutes... Not true at all. The port, airport and city line essentially in a triangle shaped layout, with each being one point of the triangle. FCO to Rome is the shortest leg of the triangle, with drives being 30 to 40 minutes. Rome to the port takes about 75 minutes, and the port to the airport takes about 60 or so minutes to drive. A quick look at Google Maps would confirm this.

Hmmm, that's some interesting geography. Here's a map showing the three key points marked. As CruiserBruce says, it's actually a triangle. No real advantage to staying near the airport, really unless it is because you have a really, really early flight out the next morning.
