Rare Eli_6 Posted April 7, 2022 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2022 My last three attempts at getting OBC for being a shareholder have been denied with CCL claiming that I was sailing on a discount rate even though in 2 out of the 3 instances I was not sailing on a deeply discounted casino rate or some other deep discount, but simply a regular old "VIFP" discount that wasn't even much of a discount. (I was paying like $1300 for an OV.) Yet, I hear of people sailing on $99 (and sometimes less) deals that have been approved. And I was approved for my August sailing that was on a regular VIFP rate. Clearly, this is completely arbitrary so I am wondering if there is a trick to this. For those of you who were approved, did you send it in via snail mail or email? Did you have a TA apply for the discount? Any other tricks? At this point, I feel like I have lost out on $300 and over the next year, it will mean a loss of another $700 if I am denied for every upcoming cruise. maluhia87 Posted April 7, 2022 #2 Share Posted April 7, 2022 I've been sending through email. Only got denied for a discounted NYE cruise same time that everyone else was getting denials. Since then have been approved for a sailing that was $10/pp and approved for everything through July 2023 most of those on the 50% deal. If you have any sailing that you were denied for before but haven't left yet, resubmit. A number of people have been having luck resubmitting since they has become less stringent on the rules.
Rare ninjacat123 Posted April 7, 2022 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2022 Last 4 cruises, 2 of them deeply discounted, I received shareholders credit for each of them. I sent an email to shareholders@carnival.com stating the following: Hi! Please find attached my current brokerage statement. Please issue shareholder credit to the following: Legal name: MY NAME Booking number: MY BOOKING NUMBER Ship: MY SHIP Sailing date: THE EMBARKATION DATE Thank you! I attached two screenshots, one indicating my Carnival stock and the other my name, both with the account number redacted. I would get an immediate automated response saying they received my email. Then 2-3 weeks later I would get an email saying the shareholders credit had been issued. Sorry to hear that you have been denied. I hope you have success with your next cruise!
travelcommons Posted April 7, 2022 #4 Share Posted April 7, 2022 Sent mine via snail mail and about 3 weeks later I checked my online account and the OBC was credited in my account. This was for a 3/21/22 sailing and when I got on board the shipboard credit was there in my folio to spend.
pe4all Posted April 7, 2022 #5 Share Posted April 7, 2022 Applied this a.m. for May and January cruises. Got back automated reply. Hoping to get approved, even though I am on casino rate. Was denied for my last 2 cruises, even though others with same promos were allowed. Guess it is hit or miss on who gets the email, and what kind of mood they are in that day! pinto18 Posted April 8, 2022 #6 Share Posted April 8, 2022 Yes, try to re-submit. We did after getting denied and were approved the second time. (Email each time)
live.love.cruise Posted April 8, 2022 #7 Share Posted April 8, 2022 (edited) I’ve submitted my requests the same way each time (via email with current statement and cruise booking info) and received different outcomes. Last year I was approved for several casino discounted cruises. In Feb I was denied (two submissions/two denials) for a non casino discounted cruise. In March I was approved for a non casino discounted cruise. Edited April 8, 2022 by live.love.cruise
Moviela Posted April 8, 2022 #8 Share Posted April 8, 2022 I'll keep an eye out. I submitted fat ten record locators today, including two back to back, and two 14 day cruises. Sent with broker statement to investor relations, and received an auto squak from Guest Admin seconds later.
teknoge3k Posted April 8, 2022 #9 Share Posted April 8, 2022 I've submitted all of mine via email. If any was denied, I resubmitted it and it was approved.
FruitStandaficionado Posted April 8, 2022 #10 Share Posted April 8, 2022 Maybe you have to have over 100 shares and be in the red on your stock statement… Lol!
satbeachbill Posted April 8, 2022 #11 Share Posted April 8, 2022 I submit mine by snail mail. Have been approved each time. Twice since late January. Confirmation sent to my email.
gardn198 Posted April 8, 2022 #12 Share Posted April 8, 2022 I used Ninjacat's template literally last night, and just got the approval email this afternoon. 1

overeasy Posted April 8, 2022 #14 Share Posted April 8, 2022 Bring a copy of your brokerage acct statement to customer service on the ship? I would think that face-to-face they would be unlikely to deny the OBC.
tytanbri Posted April 8, 2022 #15 Share Posted April 8, 2022 Emailed my brokerage account statement March 31st to shareholders@carnival.com. Emailed it on March 31st and received OBC confirmation on April 3rd.
Oldsweets Posted April 9, 2022 #16 Share Posted April 9, 2022 Two thirds of our casino offer cruises were denied because of being discount rate rules but one third approved. We are happy that a few got through the process.
Rare Wanna_Cruize Posted April 9, 2022 #17 Share Posted April 9, 2022 I'd just try resubmitting any future ones that were initially rejected. I wouldn't mention that they had been rejected, just submit them as you would any other cruise. Can't hurt to try!
Rare shof515 Posted April 9, 2022 #18 Share Posted April 9, 2022 if you are booked under a resident rate, do they approve it or is that denied due to discount rate rules?

That’s what we did…resubmitted using exact same paperwork and didn’t say anything about being denied. Got approval a week later
13cheermom Posted April 9, 2022 #20 Share Posted April 9, 2022 Just submitted mine for a November cruise this fall. Got a response back stating" they had received my email and are happy to look into my inquiry and get back as soon as they can". So okay that sounds normal, then it says "due to increase in inquiries their response time will take longer than normal. We will process your requests as rapidly as possible but keep in mind this may happen as late as the week prior to sailing". 😱 "Please do not submit any duplicate requests." Is this the normal message going out now for stockholder requests. It has been 2 years since sailing with Carnival, but don't remember that kind of message before. Anyone else see this before?? GoldnGrl98 Posted April 10, 2022 #21 Share Posted April 10, 2022 I had a cruise last month. I emailed a pic of my brokerage statement and cruise information three weeks before the cruise date, and they approved it two weeks later. I have two more cruises scheduled right now, but I they aren't until October '22 & January '23, so I haven't submitted them yet.

I just checked the auto responses I've gotten from our last couple of cruises. This new response language you posted was included in one of my requests from last December; the response from June of 2021 did NOT include the message that it "might happen as late as a week prior to sailing". I sent one request in on March 16, and got the same response about long wait time, but still got the notice that the credit has been applied 5 days later. 1

Yes I actually just received email that it was approved and applied to my November booking. I verified that it was added in my online account also. I was surprised when I just submitted on Saturday, received the strange response, and then a day later it was approved. 😁
