For those who havent been to Norfolk before one wants to do the half day island tour as early as possible to get an idea of the layout of the island and see what is there then go exploring on your own

We had ours on the day we arrived

I'm looking at going for the first time in a few months time, looking for accommodations that includes a car, any suggestions thanks.

Try Channers, they have the packages, apartments, car and flights, also handily located if you want to walk but far enough out for quiet.

That’s a real bonus

Yes everyone we know who has been to NI, have had a car offered if they required it, and definitely get one, you can get up and go when ever you like. out to meals at night, shopping trips etc.

However if you can't drive for some reason, the resorts and the tour operators will pick you up from the major accommodation places.

Thank you for the information.

Is Norfolk Island open to cruise ships?

Which airlines fly to Norfolk Island?  Do small planes fly between Norfolk Island and Lord Howe Island, both beautiful islands?

Never been to Norfolk either, but looking at satellite image, doesn't seem like there are many beaches?

is there any decent snorkelling from beaches on the island?

Craig

Not many beaches on the Island - don't know about snorkelling but I don't think there is much coral around the island. Most of the "waterfrontage" is cliff faces  , falling away to fathomless depths. Their rubbish dump consists of a bulldozer - which pushes everything and anything over the cliff into the deep blue sea - never to be seen again - after they burn it of course.

No, only visitors who go to the Night as a Convict and it’s white with black broad arrow. We wouldn’t be seen dead in them. : )

QANTAS fly in 3 days from Sydney and 3 days from Brisbane. No flights between us and Lord Howe. Air Chathams is commencing a weekly flight to New Zealand from September1. Yes we are open to cruise ships big have had none yet. There is one scheduled for later in the year.

We have 5 beaches, Emily Bay, Slaughter Bay, Cemetary beach, Bumboras and Anson Bay. Emily and slaughter are exceptionally safe for kids. Plenty of coral, especially at Emily and Slaughter and Cemetary. Great snorkeling and 2 glass bottom boats operate. We have a waste management Centre and most unrecyclable is sent away. We no longer burn and push into the sea.

Love Norfolk Island. We've been seven times, most recently in February this year. The natural beauty is what attracts us. Swimming in Emily Bay and snorkeling in Slaughter Bay daily are our favourites. Since the increase in Irukandji in Queensland, we no longer swim in Qld beaches north of Sunshine coast (except our favourite beach - Lake McKenzie on Fraser Island). So Norfolk Island is our annual get-away. Much prefer Norfolk Island for safe swimming and snorkeling than Lord Howe Island (as mentioned by others, there's an outlying reef protecting Emily and Slaughter Bays). Water temperature best December to April.

We always stay 7 or 10 days and always in accommodation with full kitchen as love to self cater. Suggest taking own foodstuffs if space permits. Gluten free bread can be ordered a day ahead at bakery next to supermarket if needed.

If first time visitor, suggest buying a museum pass for the historic Kingston area. Much more history than just convicts. Lovely walks of all levels also available around the island.

A very special part of Australia!

Thank you for sharing.  I enjoyed holidaying there once, with island activities arranged for every day.  I always planned to return to enjoy independent exploration of this beautiful island, from self contained accommodation.

It's wonderful reading all about Norfolk Island as we fly into Brisbane tonight (if Qantas doesn't cancel us) and fly to Norfolk tomorrow.

We are really looking forward to our time there. We have a few activities organised as we are the for Christmas in July.

We will have a car to explore as much as we can in 7 days.

So far so good. Our flight to Brisbane seems to be going on time. Checked in at a Perth airport and it’s very quiet.
