XuGator Posted April 27, 2022 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2022 Disembarking the Apex on August 13th in Amsterdam and the ship is slated to arrive in port around 6am. Does anyone have any advice or expertise on what would be a comfortable departure time for a flight? There seem to be a lot of options around 11 or 12. Is that cutting it too close? It's about a 20 minute taxi ride from the cruise port to the airport, so it is doable; but I would go for the 12 rather than 11 to be comfortable. 1
baggal Posted April 27, 2022 #4 Share Posted April 27, 2022 The airport is huge. Be prepared to spend a lot of time walking to get to your gate. 3
BSinPNS Posted April 28, 2022 #5 Share Posted April 28, 2022 And secondary security screening to return to the US. May need to allow time for a COVID test required (at this time) to fly back to the US.
Arizona Wildcat Posted April 28, 2022 #6 Share Posted April 28, 2022 Interesting comments. Let's try a timeliness, dock at 6am. Is the ship on time? How long before the ship is released by customs? How long to get thru customs? 30 minutes to the airport using Uber if there is not an accident on the highway. How long to get the currently required covid test and RESULTS in order to board? How long to check in? And 2 security screenings take How long? Now add the 90 minutes required to be there before takeoff. Thus if you are asking, you do not have enough time. Why not get an Airbnb for a couple nights and see Amsterdam? Tulips April and May. Museums and windmills year round. 2
Coarsegold_Mom Posted April 28, 2022 #7 Share Posted April 28, 2022 We are on this same cruise. The flight we need leaves at 10:50. We decided to spend another day in Amsterdam rather than being rushed to get off the boat, head to the airport and spend the time worrying. 1

A wonderful city and a modern and efficient airport!

XuGator Posted April 28, 2022 Author #10 Share Posted April 28, 2022 We are spending 3 nights before the cruise in Amsterdam so don’t really need the extra night after. I appreciate all the comments and might try to find a later flight after 2 or 3pm to be safe.

mauimary Posted April 28, 2022 #12 Share Posted April 28, 2022 August is a busy time for traveling so could leave you pretty stressed out with getting to the airport and going through the whole check in with baggage and security process. It can be very crowded. As I remember from a few years ago Delta had a secondary security process which takes time. For our return in July we are flying back the next day. We are staying at an airport hotel just to keep it easier.
suzyluvs2cruise Posted April 28, 2022 #13 Share Posted April 28, 2022 We're sailing on the Apex TA leaving April 30. Flights booked through Celebrity Air who gave us a return flight at 11:15 am. We plan to Covid test for return to US onboard and do self-debark around 7am. Would I have picked a flight that early.....probably not.

The Sheraton at the airport is convenient and very nice.
