Looking for restaurants with fried clam Strips(no bellies) in Boston (near Long Wharf), Halifax (near or on the harbor walk area) or Bar Harbor near where ships let you off. Limited mobility for walking more than 1/2 mile. Thanks.

Clam strip recipe from my grandmother:

1) Take a dozen thick but medium length rubber bands

2) Cut rubber bands into 1.5" strips

3) Bread in cornmeal (or panko)

4) Deep fry for 5 minutes

5) Enjoy!

She never had really good clam strips (not breaded!)…Scituate, MA and Salem, MA have some of THE best strips!

Pretty much north of the Maine/NH border, strips are not favorites.

My local place last summer was pushing strips over bellies. Mainly due to cost. They said they were keeping bellies in stock for those that wanted them, but heavily recommending against it since they didn't want to fleece their customers.

You may not see clam strips on menus because "fried clams" has come to mean "fried clam strips" in recent years. In order to get whole fried clams, you often have to look for "Ipswich clams." Those of us born at the Jersey Shore are called "clam diggers," an activity I frequently enjoyed before pollution regulations closed most waters. I would search for clams with my toes and then shuck and eat them on the spot, now no longer possible. All of the preceding is further evidence of the fall of Western civilization.

This is not the case in Maine. Unless otherwise stated, fried clams are bellies.

Maybe in Jersey, but in New England fried clams still means whole belly. Yum
