Air Canada classifies this type of seat as Business Class. They are pods, with lie flat seats.

o.P.- what airline were you on?

love your photos!

...and on overseas flights, AC calls them Signature Class

Okay, my last post yesterday was landing in JFK. We had an easy 2-hour layover and were soon aboard our flight and heading to
Rome. I absolutely splurged and we flew first class. Might never go back to main cabin! 😜

I for one love the airline seats we are flying over next year and will seriously look at these.

Now I will be following because we plan on the Regal again and will love to see what has changed post C19. Understand the menu for Alfredo’s (spelling off I think) only has pizza on other ships. If you go on the Regal can you let us know if they still serve the pasta dishes on this ship.

Thanks for posting and great pictures of Rome.

We’re staying at the Albergo del Senato and it’s just what I had in mind. It’s located across from the Pantheon, includes a nice breakfast and they have a terrace bar.

We visited the Pantheon and Piazza Navona before my mom ran out of energy. We then took an Uber to the Spanish Steps. There is mega expensive shopping in this area, but we didn’t get anything from Louis Vuitton or Gucci. We did have a light snack and then decided to try the Hop On/Hop Off bus, which we enjoyed.

Here’s something that I didn’t know before this visit:  all of the fountains in Rome are fresh spring water and you can drink from them!

Great photos of your American Airlines Business class seats. Did you get lounge access at jFK for your 2 hour layover?

No, we did not get access to a lounge.

As you got only business class seats, you may possibly have cause for complaint to the airline if you have paid a first class fare and you didn't voluntarily agree to a downgrade into business class.

With either a first or a business class ticket, you should have had lounge access. And at JFK, I think that this should have been to the Flagship lounge, not the ordinary Admirals Club. If you were denied access (it's not clear from your post), you may have cause for complaint about this too. Good airline staff might also prompt a passenger by (for example) asking whether they know where the lounge is, so that someone who doesn't can be given directions - although staff with this level of people-savvy aren't always around.

And at least you now know something that you can try to take advantage of on your way back. Lounge access may soothe some of the pain of the cruise being over.

Today, I booked a “skip the lines” tour of the Vatican Museum, St. Perer’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. The meeting place for our tour group was a couple of blocks away from the Vatican. From the beginning, my mom struggled to keep up, but she managed. Once at the Vatican, we still had to wait in line for about 45 minutes, half of it in the sun, to enter the Basilica.

Unfortunately, the walk to our next location was too far, too hot and too fast for my mom. We had to drop out. 😭 We sought air conditioning, seating and solace at Burger King. Once she was rested, we took an Uber back to our hotel.

Looks like I’ll have to make my husband bring me back so I can visit the Sistine Chapel.

Question for the Hop on Hop off did you purchase a pass or use locale currency?

This has me very excited for our upcoming trip in August! We are staying at the same hotel, so I will look into the company you used for transfer from airport to hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to do a “Live from”, I can’t wait to follow along on your journey!

Day One - Boarding / Civitavecchia

I scheduled an Uber from our hotel (Albergo del Senato) to the port; driver arrived on time at 9:20am. It took about and hour and 15 minutes to get here. We were dropped off right at our ship, met by a porter and immediately joined the check-in line. No one looked at the app to see what our arrival time was or what color lane we were supposed to be in. Once we arrived at checkin counter, she wasn’t able to scan our app, so had to provide passports, vaccination cards and negative Covid results. We then walked right onto the ship; we were through the whole process in 30 minutes! Went straight to our room and dropped off our carryons.

We watched the muster and ship info on our tv and then went to our muster station to check in. Toured the ship a bit and then had lunch in the MDR (Concerto) because I have heard this is the only time they serve the orange soufflé and I just had to try it!

The ship is beautiful!

Day One - Around the Ship

I took a few pictures and will share a few, but this post isn’t very comprehensive

We have a deluxe premium aft balcony and our balcony is pretty big!
