cleobella Posted June 22, 2022 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2022 We will be docked in Messina on a Sunday in October and will probably plan an excursion to Taormina. Does anyone know if the town closes up on Sundays; the stores, cannoli bakery, amphitheatre? Also, are taxi's reliable on Sundays for getting there and back or would it be a surer bet to use a shore excursion offered buy the cruise ship. Thanks for any info! euro cruiser Posted June 22, 2022 #2 Share Posted June 22, 2022 Taormina is a resort town, during the season pretty much everything is open. You can get there by bus, train + bus, or private car service. A taxi would actually be more expensive than a car service.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted June 24, 2022 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2022 I was there on a Sunday -- everything was open though things were a little sleepy/slow when I first got there around, say 10:30. Did the theatre first and by the time I finished there, it seemed just like any other day in a resort town. Stores and restaurants open, people strolling, shopping, eating gelato, etc.
mnpurple Posted June 24, 2022 #4 Share Posted June 24, 2022 Make sure you get granita at Bam Bar, it is delicious!!! You can also get it with fresh made brioche.
