The Fleet Report and Daily for Friday June 24th, 2022

I knew it would happen, after threatening my computer to take it to the shop, it has corrected itself all on its own!

So I will post a few pictures of Alter do Chao.  Easy to walk around the small village; they had one souvenir shop with lovely things made of the Amazonian rubber  - I bought DS a big rubber turtle (he's a rock collector, but I figured rubber would do).

I normally try to stay pretty modest on my diet but yesterday was the big exception.

As well as it should have been!  You do know there are no carbs in birthday cake when you eat it on your birthday.  And, someone must have wished you a happy birthday.  With all of your Daily friends, you could have eaten the whole cake.

Just an update on the Botox request, I had a call from my PT and he has had zilch response from his request to the Dr in Hershey or from his nurse . He is not happy. I told him I am not surprised and how my next appointment is now January. He suggested I try calling and get back to him.

I had that problem once with my PCC.  It wasn't her, it was the office staff.  The physicians group she belongs to were the ones who hired the office staff and they were rotating in and out on an almost daily basis.  I finally went down to the office, told them what needed to happen,  and said I would be waiting in the office until they did it.  Only took them 20 minutes.

That seating diagram looks just about right.

As a child, fish eyes were my favourite part of the lovely sweet & sour fish we used to have in Shanghai.  Yum.  😉Also there is a restaurant here which occasionally has halibut cheeks (also yum), so I am okay for fish heads.  (Having the whole head would be a lot of work, though.)

I'm pretty sure that most of the people here would be happy to let you have their portion of fish head.  I know I would.  It is nice to find one person who has actually had the dish and liked it.

@grapau27 I'm glad the injection is helping.  I had pretty good relief for a long time with the cortisone shots.

I get the impression that a lot of people look down on those who enjoy eating fish heads.  In our house we both enjoy them and take turns on who gets to eat it when we have baked golden pompano or salmon.  I have some good news on my age related macular degeneration.  The new drug seems to be working well.  I had my eyes examined for new glasses yesterday and they took a color picture of the interior of both eyes.  In the past you could see a vein that had been leaking causing the degeneration.  Now all you can see in that area is scar tissue, which is a huge improvement.

Ray, I do not look down on those who enjoy fish heads or any other exotic food.  I realize that different cultures enjoy different foods, probably based on what was available before transportation opened up the world.  In my case, I have tried foods from different distant lands and have enjoyed many of them.  There are some fish I enjoy, but I'm not a big fish eater, and fish heads, just like parts of  lobsters other than the claws and tails do not appeal to me.  Growing up in west Texas, we did not have access to much fresh fish, except mostly mostly catfish and bass.  Our diet relied mainly on beef, pork and poultry, which might explain a lot about my preferences.

BTW, those of us who do not enjoy fish heads and eyes leave more for those who do.  😉

Well, not a good night for me. As I was going to bed around 11:30 and taking off my socks, I noticed my right lower leg was hot, red and somewhat painful! I thought probably cellulitis. Could I wait until morning? Since I am on the new immunosuppressant, I decided I should be seen. Called BFF and he picked me up around 12:30AM (bless him). I decided to go to the city hospital of my network versus the suburban one; always interesting characters there. They did bloodwork and gave me the first dose of an antibiotic. I got home just before 4:30. I managed to sleep until 9, and just picked up my prescription. I'm not a nap person, but may try later. I wish I had a recliner so I could elevate my leg; I had been thinking of getting one. And I must not stress eat, as I've been doing well with watching my intake! Always something! Hot and humid here the next few days.

Vanessa, I'm sorry your leg and foot are bothering you. I'm glad they gave you an antibiotic and I hope it helps solve the problem soon.

Ann, thank you for sharing your pictures of Alter do Chao.  It looks a lot more prosperous than Boca de Valeria that we visited on our Amazon cruise in 2006.

@grapau27  Thanks again for more food porn.  I want the quiche, and the rest of the stuff looks (ummm....) healthy.

@Cruising-along I use FreeStyle Libre 2.  Every two weeks my DH jabs my arm with a very adhesived tape, and in the middle of it, is a short needle attached to a scanning device.  It monitors my blood sugar 24/7 for 14 days.  When it gets too high, the Reader Scanner starts beeping loudly (this is usually after a high carb/sugar adventure)..Which means GET UP AND MOVE!  unfortunately this is usually after dinner, while I'm a pet veggie in front of the tube.  And there really isn't any where I feel safe walking at night.  Using my weights really helps, I just need to do it.  The one thing using this has helped with, is acknowledging my problem.  I lost 10 pounds because I realized I was not eating correctly.  The one I use is not covered by Medicare or insurance, which I think is a mistake.  It really does help. It is made by Abbott, and our pharmacy gives me a half off deal through the manufacturer. BUT if you have a nice fancy phone with lots of apps, you can get the Freestyle that works with the phone, and that is covered.   Oh, and dark chocolate is healthy.  It's got antioxidants.:classic_tongue:

@JazzyV  What did they tell you was making your leg hot . red and swelling?  The new meds? I hope the antibiotics work.

@USN59-79 It's great to read about the eye improvement.

Thank you, I learned something today!  I had heard about it in general terms, but didn't know that it actually beeps at you.  That's what I need 😉  Although it could be embarrassing when out in public 😉

I wish my Mother had had something like this, she was a brittle diabetic (and not at all careful).

@Cruising-along Well, to get it to stop beeping, you scan, and then press enter.  It also goes off if it's not with you.  Kind of like, it misses you.  When we were on vacation last year and went to the beach I would leave it in the condo.  It would start (whining for me) and my BFF, (not a sun person) would bring it to me while at the beach or pool, and say "you need to take your child with you".  When it went off at the symphony it was during a very loud Mahler piece, it was vibrating and beeping, but I don't think any one heard it, and I turned it off.  The goal of course is to eat and exercise so that it doesn't beep at me at all.

just because someone does not enjoy a particular food item , drink or activity - does not mean the person looks down on someone who does enjoy it. Especially here on the Daily.

@USN59-79  I forgot to say what good news your eye examination was.  Do you still need the shots on a regular basis?

@ger_77  Gerry, I thought I'd show you a picture of the pie before we cut into it later today.  I doubt that with regulate Cool Whip it would have piled up that high without running over the sides.  I'll let you know how it was with the Oreo crust, but then what could go wrong with chocolate?  😉

Yes, diagnosed as cellulitis, a bacterial skin infection. I have no idea why I got it. No break in the skin or bug bite. It's still somewhat painful, although less red I think. I'll probably be in bed after dinner, with pillows to prop up the leg.

It's an infection that's causing the symptoms. I'm not sure if the new immunosuppressant would make me susceptible that quickly. Also I have a bit of swelling in my legs, but wear my compression stockings religiously, from getting up to going to bed, even in this hot weather.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Yummy looking pie!

I agree.

I would never look down on another person and I'm sure no one on here would do either.

We eat lots of cod, haddock and sea bass but neither of us have ever eaten a fish head.

Graham.

Just heard back from my TA regarding my request to extend/ transfer my FCC . She spent hours on hold with guest service and hadn’t been able to get thru. Mariners society told her no go but referred her back to guest service. She has now trying email.  Maybe I should just book and cancel to see if that extends it . Fwiw Royal allows it to be transferred.

Great news on your eyes!  Congratulations!

We don't look down on those who like fish heads.  I think it is all in what you are familiar with and how adventurous a person is.  I remember having that same reaction to things my mother talked about eating as a child.  She grew up on a farm and they wasted nothing.

My husband can eat just about everything. He had a hotpot fish pot in Maui and there was a fish head with googly eyes. He tried one (gooey, jelly like, and a tiny bit crunchy) Promptly removed the other and set it aside. But he said the hotpot was better than any he had his 2 tours in Vietnam.  Me? I couldn't even look at his bowl.. to each his own!

The interval for the eye injections has changed from once every four weeks to once every 6 weeks.  It may extend beyond that.  The interesting thing is that normally the Dr. just expects to stop it from getting worse, not curing it.  I think that I am actually being cured of it.

Luckily, medicare and tricare cover the cost, as each treatment is roughly $2k.

I have lived a few years in the Far East; 3 years in Taipei and 3 years in the Philippines plus many stops there in my Navy career and I married a young lady from Taiwan.  So I have become comfortable eating food that many who have not had my experiences would look askance at.  However, today we are having barbecued steak and I need to go light the barbecue.
