Mariner Credit Question

Based on my research, if you book a suite, you are given two Mariner credits per day.  We have a Vista Suite booked on our upcoming Rotterdam cruise.  We booked this suite using a casino offer, which gave us a very nice discount off of the posted fare.  Should we expect the same Mariner credits -- two credits per day, or not due to the fact that this was booked using a casino offer?

To my knowledge, the 'suite' that qualifies for double points is the Neptune Suite only. It hasn't mattered, in my experience of 25 years with HAL, how you booked it, or how it was discounted, you will get double points. You also get extra points for spending onboard.

Signature Suites also qualify. I haven't sailed in a Vista Suite but I thought they did too.

As far as the casino offer, it depends. If it is the casino rate, which is a discount off most cruises, then yes, you will get double points. If it is a special casino offer, like a free cabin, then no you do not get the double points.

Vista suites count for double Mariner credits.  I have no idea about the casino offers though.

Sorry, but you are wrong on both counts.

If it has the word "Suite" in its designation IT DOES qualify, so Pinnacle, Neptune, Signature and Vista Suites all qualify AND it does matter how you book it.  Points are only allocated if you originally book a suite; if you are complimentarily upgraded to a suite or purchase an upgrade to a suite, you will not get double days counted in your Mariner status.

Here is the exact lingo, what is not clear is if you pay for an upsell on top of a regular fare.  I vote that it is included but that is just my opinion 

 

• Suite Bonus Earn double Cruise Day credits when you pay a published fare for a spacious suite or penthouse on your next cruise. For example, a guest who pays published fare for suite accommodations for a 10-day cruise earns 20 Cruise Day credits. Special paid or complimentary upgrades do not qualify.

Since an upsell is not published fare (the fare you see on the website), to me, it is clear upsells do not count for the Mariner double point credit 😉

Correct (as usual)!  In April we booked a Verandah and took an upsell to a Neptune and DID NOT get the suite bonus (I just doubled checked our accounts to verify this).  We originally booked with a casino rate (if that matters).  IN the past I have booked Signature suites and taken upsells to Neptunes and of course got the double points suite bonus every time (on casino rates or not).

@DaveOKC  I just used your formula for an upsell than played a little more hardball for a better location.  Thanks for all of your advice.  I will report back in a few weeks whether I was credited with points for the upgrade
