I was stung by a bee on my hand about a week ago, and it didn’t go well, but is finally better.

I'm so sorry to hear this, but glad you're doing better!

About 7 years ago I found out I'm allergic to all bee stings, especially wasps.  It took six wasp stings on my arm and allergy testing to find out.

Good morning from a partly cloudy and windy central Texas.  It will be cooler today 94F, but not quite as cool as predicted -- 90F.  This will be quick since I want to get the yard done while the temperatures are still in the 70s and 80sF.

We also use quite a few onions when cooking.  Living in Texas and Arizona, sunglasses are a must.  I haven't played Bingo in 20 years, but I've enjoyed it.  On an early cruise on a very small ship, they let the DD's play bingo since there was no age requirement.   May people who played the last day to try to win the jackpot were upset when younger DD won.  The CD told them she had been playing all week while they hadn't.  The next time we were on the ship, they were no longer old enough to play.

The quote is interesting, but I think people want to be loved and understood.

The meal sounds good, but we'll pass on the drink and wine.  I'm just not into blue drinks.

We have been to Korcula once in 2016 on Prinsendam.  It was a substitute port when our Black Sea cruise was canceled after the attempted coup in Turkiye.

@smitty34877  Terry, I'm glad your DH's gout is improving.  I hope Tana had a better night last night.

@aliaschief  I hope you find your neighbor's keys.

@Crazy For Cats  Enjoy your day in Halifax.

Good morning all!

Today is our last hot day for awhile, then it's back to cooler, wet days.  It's been a good trial run for the new A/C and I love it. 🙂

I like onions in moderation for added flavor in dishes -- too much doesn't agree with me though.  I wear sun glasses all year, even on some of our cloudy days.  Since I wear contacts, the sun really bothers my eyes.  In the past we played Bingo on BHBs every time it was offered.  Then the casino took it over and got very chintzy.  In the past it wasn't unusual for me to win hundreds of dollars  but not anymore so we rarely play now. It's a shame, we really enjoyed it.

Will pass on the drink (not a fan of coconut) and red wine.  The meal sounds good, but high in carbs.

Today I'll finally finish staining the deck -- just in time, as the weather is changing!

We've been to Korcula at least 3 times.  Once we took winery tours, once we took the "Dalmatian Riviera Cruise" excursion, and once we enjoyed walking, browsing and shopping.  It's a beautiful port as are most of the ports in Croatia.

Good afternoon.  I'm finally through with the yard work and cleaned up.  I didn't get outside as early as I intended, but then I rarely do.  With the cooler temperatures, a good wind and being in the shade most of the time, it wasn't too bad out.  That is, it wasn't too bad until the bushes I was trimming got in the sun.  By then I was almost finished, and probably won't have to trim them again until next fall.

I have enjoyed all the pictures from Korcula.  It's amazing the different things that each of us finds interesting to photograph.  Thank you @Cruising-along and @bennybear for sharing your pictures.  @baltic17  All I can say is WOW!  I'm glad we were there on a sunny day.  No wonder the café owner closed.

@durangoscots  Susan, I'm glad Monty is settling into his new home and that Bandit has accepted him as part of the family.

@Vict0riann  Ann, I'm glad Pat is doing better, but sorry he still has some pain.  I hope the therapy appointment and the doctor appoint can help.

@JazzyV  Vanessa, I wish the leg was better than just fair.  I hope the appointment with Wound Care Wednesday can give you some relief.

@AncientWanderer  I'm glad you are doing better after the bee sting.

Ann, thanks for asking.  He's doing all right, even though the steroids from the IV have worn off.  He has an appointment tomorrow with physical therapy at the hospital.  It's for evaluation and hopefully some exercises.  He's been doing the ones the therapist gave him to use at home.

Good afternoon!  Thank you for the Fleet Report and Daily Rich. Thanks to everyone who contributes to the Daily.

DGD spent the weekend and I made all her favorite foods, including strawberry ice cream. It turned out extra good.

DM had a doctors appointment this morning, then we went shopping and then lunch. Annie @marshhawk, we also went to Red Lobster mostly because I had a free dessert for my birthday I wanted to use. All was good, saving my dessert for later—I got the cheesecake. It was hard getting back into the groove with DM, I haven’t seen her in a month and she had a lot of stuff for me to do for her. It’ll get done but I haven’t even caught up with my own stuff yet. 😉. And she wants to see her younger sister and BIL soon. They recently moved to a new retirement center which is really close. This sister has a lot of health issues and was recently in the hospital for 5 weeks after a fall. There were 13 siblings and now only 3 are left, all girls.

Maxine @AncientWanderer -wow on your bee sting!  I have been thinking about you, especially since San Francisco was the port of the day a few days ago. Great memories!  I hope you are better now and enjoying your new grand baby.

Thank you to everyone who posted pictures of today’s port. It looks like a beautiful island.

Have a great day everyone!

@Sharon in AZ The cheesecake there is the best, with that vanilla cream topping.  I just wanted to try something new, and I was disappointed.

Currently taking a two hour break from work, listening to the thunder outside.  We did have some rain, but I'm waiting for more.

Unfortunately for the feral Fawn, she got stuck out side somewhere in the rain, and looked like a drowned possum by the time she got home.  I haven't' seen her new buddy all day.  I ended up calling him Bubbles, because he has large black circles on one side.  Black ears, and a black tail.  He sleeps under my car a lot.  But I haven't seen him, and he is not a healthy cat at all, even though he is about a year old.

Korcula looks like a fascinating place to wander around.  DH never really looks at this site, but I'm sure our cruise wish list would be longer if he did.  I told him today, my wish list cruise is Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland leaving out of Boston.  I wonder if that one exists.

I was painting the 2nd story on our home in Idaho. I did not see the wasp nest til it was too late. I was only stung 3 times on my hand and arm on the way down the ladder but my fingers and arm swelled and so did my tongue! I took 2 Benedril and put my arm in the ice container. I learned my lesson..

Ouch!  Idaho wasps are the worst.  They seem to be everywhere.  With the swollen tongue, you really do need to be careful!

Yikes!  You need to be careful, too.  I'm grateful I didn't have full-blown allergy with the tongue and throat involvement, but my hand got really big and sore and unusable.  And then the Benadryl isn't pleasant, either.

But onward and upward.  I rushed through some pages here quickly and saw a darling photo of Miss Camilla with her grandpa.  And I saw that some of the DH's here are having difficulties.  We don't like that at all.  😡  Good to see that the St. Louis Cruisers are out of jail, though!

Korcula is a beautiful place.  DH spent all day there trying to track down his phone he lost, so we need to go back.  (He found it behind the cushion of the sofa in our cabin.)   The photos today are wonderful.    ❤️   ❤️   ❤️

It does, and is called Voyage of the Vikings.  You can do round trip Boston, which we did in 2018 and loved it!

I did the VoV with Carolyn and Henry and it was fantastic. It is generally 35 - 38 days and can be booked round trip, Boston => Europe, or Europe=>Boston.

If I remember correctly, there has also been a shorter RT Boston, to Newfoundland, Iceland, and Greenland offered as well, maybe 20 days or so.

There is a shorter one round trip out of Boston that we are going to book for next summer.  It may run a couple of times during the summer, but we plan to do the July 29th one.  It is 25 days.  It doesn't go all the way to Europe, but does a great job of Iceland (6 ports) and Greenland (2 ports).   The only problem with next year's itinerary is that it doesn't do Prins Cristian Sund.

Big Basin 2018 Wirz Vineyard Old Vine Carignan

This wine is a bit elusive, and I am not familiar with this grape variety as a stand alone wine. I suspect it has been in one or two red blends I have enjoyed. It has a superb rating from one critic and I found one online distributor offering it for $41.00. I would definitely love to taste this one.

It is not surprising that this wine is hard to find, nor is it surprising that you've never heard of this grape.

Carrignan is grown in several areas of France, Italy and Spain in regions were the tradition is to blend multiple grape varieties to make their wines.  Years ago Carignan was widely planted in California where it was mostly used for the production of jug wines.  The emergence of the American wine-drinking publc in the latter half of the 20th Century corresponded with the move among domestic winemakers to produce single-variety wines.  Wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes drew much attention because of their importance to prestigious Old World wine regions such as Bordeaux and Burgundy.  Grapes such as Carignan were (are) not considered "noble." and, so, few makers bothered to make single-variety wines from them.  However, Carignan pops up in many field blend wines from makers such as Bedrock, Bucklin, Carlisle and Ridge.  Invariably, these are wines sourced from old vine vineyards.

My experience with California Carignan varietal wines is that they are hearty, full-bodied wines that are perfect with a grilled steak.

The Wirz Vineyard, the source of the grapes for today's wine is listed in the registry of the Historic Vineyard Society.  Planted in the 1960s, it is a fairly young for the designation "old vine."  (There is no legal definition of the term "old vine."  The commonly accepted convention among California makers is 45 years.)  Outstanding Riesling wines have been made from Wirz fruit.

I have six bottles of Carignan from four makers in my collection, and I am always on the lookout for more.  I had never heard of the Big Basin winery--no big whoop, there are thousands of wineries that I've never heard of.  I checked out their web site to see what they are all about.  They have numerous wines available for sale on their web site--both varietal wines and blends.  This 2018 Wirz Carignan is not one of them, but the 2019 vintage is available.  I may put in a modest order.

That's too bad.  It was beautiful.  On our way back the ship sent a boat over to a small village with fresh produce and pizza and ice cream, and donations from the passengers and crew.

@JazzyV Please be very careful with your leg. A 'cruising' friend of mine who lives in NZ has had 2 bouts of cellulitis recently.  She was VERY sick the second time, and was in the hospital for over a week.

Good evening.

Sorry I am so late to the game today.

I have not had an opportunity to read all the posts but will do so.

I had a very difficult night sleep wise.  Woke up at 4 am.  Then went back to bed at 6:30 and slept til 10:30 am.  After breakfast I had to shower and get ready to go get my nails done.

A crazy day all around.

As I said, I have to still read all the posts.

Hope all are doing okay.

Prayers for those who need them and cheers to those celebrating.

God Bless and stay safe.

Love you all,

Terri

@ger_77Gerry, after trying the lemonade pie I decided to try it with limeade concentrate. I added some lime zest and the juice from 1/2 of the small lime. YUM!  I also put some of the extra filling in a bowl and froze it-very refreshing on this hot afternoon. But we're back to normal tomorrow with temps around 65.

Aliaschief, have you looked for your keys in really unusual places?  Sometimes we absentmindedly put them where we would never think of looking -- maybe even in the garbage or refrigerator.

Have spent almost a dedicated total  2 hours looking for those keys. My DW, Susan arrives back about 13:00 hours tomorrow and will probably spot them in 30 minutes!

All I can say is my neighbors cats are still receiving great Butler Service and giving me 5 star reviews on Trip Advisor. Should be posted any minute now! Hmmmmm must be Ship Wi Fi issues? That’s when I woke up in my recliner and realized I was not on a cruise.

Look on top of the refrigerator!  That's where I found my missing house key when I got a new refrigerator.  The installers tipped it onto the dolly and the key fell off.  It had been there over 3 years!!!!   (No comments about how often the top got dusted please!  😉)

Ann,

We're actually doing that cruise starting on August 3.  It's 24 days out of Boston, and goes to 6 ports in Iceland, 2 in Greenland, a few in Canada, and Bar Harbor, Maine before returning to Boston.  We're really looking forward to all the new ports!
