Can You Get Insurance For Pre-Cruise?

Hi -- we're booked on an Avalon river cruise in August with Avalon's travel insurance. My understanding from trying to read our policy  (I could be wrong) is that our flight to Budapest (using airline miles) and one-night hotel pre-cruise stay won't be covered should something happen. What is our best way to be covered for both airline incidents like lost luggage and medical incidents for the two days? Thanks.

Flights purchased with miles cannot be covered. Insurance companies consider this a $0 cost. Even the airline considers you a non revenue passenger.

Do you have any coverage on your credit card for the hotel?

I usually buy 3rd party policies that coverage begins the moment you step out the front door until you step back into the house. For these policies I use www.tripinsurancestore.com    This site is a brokerage site where the owner, Steve, can offer up to 9 different policies from major carriers.
