Looking for a pre cruise hotel in Long Beach, CA close to a grocery or Target/ Walmart type store. Plus if it has a shuttle to port. Thanks!

It helps if you say what your nightly budget is.

There are no Targets or Walmarts close to the cruise port. If going to one is a priority, you'd be better off to stay close to the Long Beach airport (LGB)/Long Beach Exchange, which has a Walmart Supercenter about 1 mile away.

Very few hotels in Long Beach have shuttles to the cruise port; there may be none post Covid.

Downtown Long Beach does have a Von's Grocery Store.

I should have asked which days of the week and time of year too, as rates vary greatly depending on events at the convention center, Grand Prix, etc.

I'd start in Downtown, looking at the Hyatt Centric, Westin, Renaissance, etc. They can be $200 or $400 depending on many factors. Best Western Plus at the Convention Center is usually reasonable.

By the airport at the Long Beach Exchange are a new Courtyard, Hampton Inn and Homewood Suites.

Saturday Oct 15th. Usually convention hotels are cheaper Saturday nights but not sure if there is anything going on in October. Are there stores in walking distance to the convention center? Want to pick up soda/wine and toiletries.

Look at the map below.

The heart of DTLB is Pine Ave & Ocean Blvd. Close by you have Von's Market, CVS, Rite Aid and Walgren's, the Pike Outlets and all kinds of shops and restaurants.

DTLB is a business district, so Saturday might a great day for good rates.

Do check the Hotel Maya DoubleTree (walkable to the cruise terminal) and Residence Inn, also close to the terminal.
