febtober Posted July 28, 2022 #27 Share Posted July 28, 2022 (edited) I just did this in a roundabout way. I sailed my with and our two kids and we got two staterooms. When booking, I put me and one kid in one room, and her and another kid in another room. While actually on the ship, we had one room and they had another. This allowed me to purchase the Cheers package just for myself, as my wife doesn't really drink and might have three or four drinks over the entire cruise and she can just pay for those. I have never bought just one. But have always read the fine print to be that you can just get one as many others understand as well:
SBthud326 Posted July 28, 2022 #29 Share Posted July 28, 2022 I did a B2B Bahamas with Carnival with my family and was pregnant. My husband got Cheers, I did not. Maybe it was just a good day or things have changed, but we didn't think we could and I mentioned it to the bartender at the first bar and they told me to go to Customer Service. I took my pregnancy form that attested I was less than the limit of weeks pregnant and they accepted that for both cruises.

I know on Royal it has to be both. Celebrity and Princess both will allow just one person in a cabin to purchase a drink package, no questions asked. Royal’s official policy is no but if you call them most people are successful in just one person purchasing the package. I never purchase a package on Carnival because my husband doesn’t drink and I don’t drink near enough to come out even on two packages all by myself!

Its not worth getting Cheers in Europe as you can bring alcohol on at each port and keep to enjoy in your cabin. Loved trying the local wines. Because of the outrageously high prices because of the "Dynamic Pricing" policy on Royal, we both got the refreshment package on our recent 12 days on the Oasis. Got multiple fresh squeezed juices each day, cans of soda, bottles of Pellegrino, and my husband enjoyed non alcoholic Heineken. Would have preferred the alcohol package, but not at 150 a day after grats. That's why Celebrity, NCL, Princess and MSC are better because of bundling and Carnival because Cheers is cheaper and consistently priced.

Nope, Carnival out of US ports does not consider any medical exemptions. You can get your money's worth of the non-alcoholic options
skywalkr2 Posted July 29, 2022 #36 Share Posted July 29, 2022 The only time I was able to do this... was when I booked 2 rooms. And had the adults split up on the tickets with one kid in each room. But then obviously after boarding the kids went in one and the adults in the other. And strangely I didn't cheat and order my wife any drinks.

travelplus Posted July 29, 2022 #38 Share Posted July 29, 2022 I drink off ship and then maybe purchase a cocktail or two onboard. I love trying the local beers or whiskeys! On my Panorama Cruise I booked a cooking class to a Hacienda out of Puerto Vallarta and they made their own tequilla. They kept brining us samples and when I tipped the server of our margaritas I told them in Spanish to make it strong and they used some of their best tequillas! In Europe I love having wine or local beer! Its much cheaper to drink off the ship . When a cruiseline has a policy to force everyone to purchase alcohol in a Cabin well then you know its not a good deal! I like the per drink option so what if I pay a bit more? In the end it works out less as my Mother doesn't drink! I can' t even get more than 3!

Now we know why Carnival will increase the package costs. You do know about the Biometrics they use just wait they are going to use the same Biometrics for drink packages! Of the 2 of us in the cabin, only one of us had a drink package once. Took a couple trips to guest services to straighten things out. However, OP asked "can 1 person buy drink package onboard" and the straight forward answer to that straight forward question is yes.

Since this is on the Carnival boards the answer for the majority of people is no. It's against Carnivals rules. If one person has DOU from the casino the second person can buy it on board. If an adult is sharing their cabin with their child, then they can obviously buy it since they are the only adult in the cabin.
