Accommodation recommendations for Southampton,England

Recommended Posts

We have a couple of cruises out of Southampton next year and will require 2 nights accommodation in Southampton between these cruises and thought that we'd explore the town.

Does anyone have any recommendations for reasonably priced accommodation near the Port, dining options, walk to most attractions etc.

My research so far has revealed little except for the fact that the town has a "captive" cruise passenger clientele and the prices seem to reflect that 😱

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

In 2019 we stayed at Premier Inn Southampton West Quay Hotel. Good location, across the road from shopping centre and easy walk to town. Couldnt walk to terminal, as we had too many bags, so caught a taxi (cant remember the cost, sorry)

Small rooms, but clean, and they had a good breakfast and dinner

About 2018, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Southampton for one night.   It was reasonably priced then and comfortable with a decent breakfast.   We were able to walk to the Cruise Port in the morning.  I am fairly sure we also walked to the shops for food and coffee the previous evening.   Best of all, saw the ships come in at about 6 am, my normal waking time and too excited to sleep anyway.

We also stayed at the Premier Inn. It is European (so things are clean and work) and reasonably priced. Roughly a 20 minute walk or taxi ride from the port, great food places around the back of the Cinema (try Bill’s) and of course shopping in West Quay if needed. You could easily spend the entire day walking around that area with the old walls close by. If you wanted to venture out further you could go to Victoria country park (where Florence Nightingale was stationed during wars).
