It's always a safe practice to disable cellular usage on all apps except those you really want to use. On the iPhone it's under Settings>Cellular. Toggle off any apps you don't intend to use. Good advice if you don’t plan to use airplane mode and are paying for data as you go. If you are using a $10/day plan from Verizon or AT&T, then just keep the phone in airplane mode until you need to use the phone when out of range of Wi-Fi. CDR2001 Posted September 6, 2022 #27 Share Posted September 6, 2022 The $10/day plan was the easiest for me and Mom when she was around and needed care. Once the plan activated for the day, unlimited calls were no extra charge so I checked in often that day. ATT had a $100 limit for the month, not bad for assurance that Mom was ok. The Other Tom Posted September 7, 2022 #28 Share Posted September 7, 2022 Simple instructions: 1. Put your phone in airplane mode (this also turns off wifi) 2. Go to your wifi settings and turn wifi back on 3. Use the ship's wifi (or public wifi onshore) for text/email. Note that it might not be secure so think twice about sending sensitive information.
