kclinton Posted September 2, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2022 Does Windstar provide picnic lunch that you can take off the ship? Can you order room service and pack your own? Does anyone have any experience with this or suggestions?
BruceMuzz Posted September 2, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2022 In most countries, taking food off a cruise ship to eat ashore is prohibited by law. They are worried that most anything you bring ashore - except sometimes packaged, processed food - could introduce harmful foreign plant and animal diseases, or insects into their country. They are especially worried about meats, fish, fruits, vegetables, and dairy products. Most cruise lines will not offer lunches to take ashore. If you try to do it on your own, you may meet an official on the pier, standing next to an over-flowing garbage bin, filled with all the foods that naive passengers tried to take ashore.

6rugrats Posted August 23, 2023 #7 Share Posted August 23, 2023 (edited) You can’t take food off the ship, except usually prepackaged items, such as crackers. Edited August 23, 2023 by 6rugrats

I have often taken sandwiches from the Yacht Club off the ship to eat ashore.

In fact, they wrap the sandwiches up for me to take. How do you know it is not permitted? Where is that stated?
