sellwingri Posted September 2, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2022 Can anyone recommend a crab or seafood restaurant on or near the pier? I walk with a cane so it needs to be near.
Northern Aurora Posted September 2, 2022 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2022 Annabelle's! The full name is Annabelle's Famous Keg and Chowder House. It is located inside the historic Gilmore Hotel on Front Street in Ketchikan. It can be seen from many of the docked ships. While they do have some non-seafood options they feature seafood. And three different types of chowder. The chowder is served in bread bowls (which has dill weed baked into the bread bowl), ceramic bowls or cups. Also chowder samplers. Great halibut & chips and a very interesting dungeness crab sandwich. We often create a sampler meal of their appetizers and love the crab wontons. Check their menu online but be aware that they generally have several specials which you won't see on the website. And since there is a dungeness crab fishery in Ketchikan you can find fresh dungy there when in season.
Barwick Cruiser Posted September 3, 2022 #3 Share Posted September 3, 2022 Questions re Annabelle’s…why do you say the dungeness sandwich is interesting? And when is dungeness season? We’ll be boarding eclipse next weekend for the final sailing and interested in whatever is in season…too late?

The dungeness sandwich is interesting because it has a little spice -- they add some Cajun seasoning. My husband loves it. I don't follow commercial fishing seasons, but the Alaska Fish & Game Commercial Division monitors commercial fishing seasons and the catch so that the fishery is not over fished. Generally the commercial season for dungy will start around July and end in November/December. We were in Ketchikan last year in late September and were eating fresh dungy.
