Rare Guardsy Posted September 15, 2022 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2022 Wed are heading out on HAL on Oct. 8 (board the 8th, overnight, depart the 9th). We plan to fly in from Portland, Oregon either the day before or on the 8th. Prefer to NOT do a hotel, but try and arrive and get to the ship. Also trying to avoid a $400 hotel room for one night! Traveling from the west coast is not easy right now. Any suggestions are appreciated. Approx. distance from the airport to the cruise terminal? Distance from the airport to downtown, where the several berths cruise ship's use are located, is about 35-40 minutes depending on traffic. That being said you would have to be mad in today's environment to fly in from the West Coast the day of your flight. Air delays in Canada have been even worse that what we've been seeing in the US. On top of that, spending time in Quebec City is most likely going to be a highlight of the entire trip-- its a wonderful city. You would significantly diminish the overall experience by just spending a few hours there as you board.

The only way I would consider flying in the day of is if it was done by the cruise line's air add-on, such as offered by Princess or Celebrity etc. At least they assume responsibility for getting you to the ship, though if the flight is significantly delayed it may take them a few days to get you to the ship. To the OP, not all hotels in Quebec City are $400, there are numerous decent alternatives in the area of the cruise port, and keep in mind that Canadian $$$s are weaker, so if a hotel is $C400, that would only be around $US300

Since you actually have an onboard overnight...this might be doable...we did it when we flew from the west coast to Dublin. But not taking the time to enjoy Quebec City...so sad. We absolutely enjoyed our pre-cruise there and stayed at the Place d' Armes at a great rate. We found it pretty easy to fly from LAX to YQB. Rare Guardsy Posted September 15, 2022 Author #5 Share Posted September 15, 2022 Thanks, Ashland. Yes, we typically always go in a day early or do red-eyes from the west coast, but for this trip, we already have an extra day in Quebec. I wish flying in from Portland or Seattle was as easy as LAX.
